Deputy Principal - Identity and Religious Life

Welcome

This week, as students returned to school, we gathered for two special events.  Yesterday, we welcomed our Year 7 students and students in other year levels new to our college.  As part of this celebration, all new students received a College badge and their House badge and learnt a little about our College patrons – Saint Francis, Saint Clare, and Elizabeth Hayes – and our College values.  Today, we welcomed staff members new to the College and recognised the Year 12 students for the special leadership role that they each hold as our most senior students.  Our College Captains for 2021 were also formally commissioned for their roles.  Thank you to all families who joined us via the livestream for one or both of these assemblies.  Under the College’s COVID plan, the number of adults who can attend our assemblies in person is limited.  It seems these arrangements will be the new normal for the foreseeable future.

65 Years

Mount Alvernia College opened its doors to students on 1 February 1956 and, this year, our College community will celebrate 65 years of Franciscan education here in Kedron.  To commence our celebrations, all students will share a birthday cake during Home Room time on Wednesday 3 February.

Please note the following upcoming events:

Monday 1 February, 3.15–5.30pm, Big Sister Mentor & Little Sister Mentee Afternoon  House Captains will facilitate activities for the Year 7 students and Big Sister mentors in Year 11.  Students will need to change into their sports uniforms after school.  They will be required to wear a hat and bring a water bottle and a pen.  Afternoon tea will be provided. Year 11 students and any Year 7 student not remaining at the College for the Nuts and Bolts Pastoral Care and Wellbeing Night will be dismissed at 5.30pm.

Thursday 4 February, 8.50am–3.00pm, Year 7 Reflection Day, Walking in Community. This day will be facilitated by Mr Michael Fitzpatrick.  Students will get to know others and where they are all from, and learn a little more about the Mount Alvernia story.  Students will need to wear their sports uniform (including hat) and bring a water bottle and a pen.
