Attendance Matters

Punctuality Culture

A major focus at CSPS is developing a Culture of Punctuality; students, parents and families.

Student attendance at school is a major priority with the Department of Education.

CSPS Attendance Intervention Improvement Team implements strategies to improve both lateness and attendance of all students.

The Attendance Officer is Kirstie Scutt along with Monique Corcoran (Principal) and Lisa McMahon (Office).

All attendance matters are deemed the highest priority and in some cases a sense of urgency.

Logging An Absence

Parents are required to enter an absence note if their child is unable to attend school.

This can be entered on the day, before the absence or after the absence.

Note: Please do not use this function to enter a late arrival or early departure.

Start of the day

  • The music to enter the classroom will begin at 8:57am, the bell to enter the classroom is at 9:00am.  All students are expected to be in the classroom by 9:00am.
  • All staff will be heavily promoting that learning starts promptly at 9am (Period 1), 11.25am (Period 3) and 1.50pm (Period 5).

An end of day bell will be rung at 3.45pm.  All students in the yard to report to the office for follow up.

Note:  Students who have arranged to be picked up at the end of the day at the office, to wait outside the office doors (unless raining) until the 3.45pm bell

  • If your child is arriving late, please proceed to the Kiss & Go area and call the Office to notify.
  • If your child is happy and confident to walk themselves to the classroom this is fine.  If the parent would prefer for a staff member to come and meet them this can be arranged.
  • A parent is NOT to let their child enter the school grounds without notifying the Office of their late arrival.  Note:  This ensures the class roll is adjusted and no incorrect absence texts are received.

Early Departures

  • If you need to collect your child early, preferred practice is to email cranbournesouth.ps@education.vic.gov.au prior to 10am on the day.  Note:  A phone call should only be if it is an emergency.
  • In the email please indicate the name of your child, class, date & time of the early collection.
  • Upon arrival at Kiss & Go please call the office and we will have your child brought to you.
  • It is preferred that early collection is arranged for the beginning of, or at the end of break times.  Note:  Pick up during learning time is a disruption to school structures and practices.

Break times

Break #1 - 10:40-11:25am

Break #2 - 1:05 - 1:50pm

Extended Family Holidays

We urge parents to use the school holiday period for family holidays to avoid students missing valuable time.

If a holiday is planned during the school term, parents are to advise the school via Compass 2 - 4 weeks prior.

A Student Absence Learning Plan will be sent home with your child when the absence is to over 5 days as per Department of Education requirement.  It is expected that the family will follow the Student Absence Learning Plan.

Students need to attend school regularly to make the most of the educational opportunities available to them. There is a direct link between attendance and achievement. Poor attendance can make it difficult for children to form positive relationships with their peers.
