News from around the School

NEW - Chatter Matters

Ten activities will be provided during term 4 focusing on pragmatic language skills. Pragmatics refers to the social use of language and includes what we say, how we say it, our body language and whether it is appropriate to the situation.

3. Turn-taking not only during games but also conversation is an important skill to master. Play games with your child to practice turn- taking (and also how to win or lose appropriately!). The following games are classics: Beetle, Guess Who, Pop- up pirate, Connect4, Trouble, Monopoly, Cluedo. You might need to give the verbal prompt, ‘My turn’, ‘Your turn’ for a start. Then focus on turn- taking during a conversation.

4. Each day when you pick your child up from school, use a different greeting e.g.      Hi Harry, it’s so great to see you, Good afternoon, Harry, Harry, I’ve missed you so much, etc.

See if your child can use a different greeting each day also.

Alternatively try using a different farewell e.g. see you later Harry, goodbye, Have a great day etc.

NEW - Prep/1/2 Aquarium Excursion

Sea Life Aquarium

On Friday Prep/One/Twos went to the Melbourne Aquarium.  We learnt about non-living and living things.  We got to feel a star fish. Our teacher’s name was Inas and Miss Wong.  I was in the purple group.  Then we went to the park. I sat next to Makayla on the bus.  It was lots of fun at the Aquarium.  We stopped for a toilet break. We got home at 5 pm.

On Friday we went to the Aquarium.  When we got there we got our Recess.  We saw the crocodile eat the chicken and we saw the penguins eat the squid.

Sea Life Aquarium

Friday morning we all had to be at school by 6.30 am.  At 6.45 we hopped on the bus.  I sat next to Audrey.  When we got to the Aquarium I was excited even though I had already been there before.  First, we saw some sharks and little fish. We also went through a tunnel.  It was dark.  Then we touched some sea stars and shells.  Then we saw some box jellyfish, lion fish and eels.  The box jellyfish were like boxes.  The lion fish were spiky and stripy.  The eels were slimy, long and had sharp teeth.  After that we saw some sea jellies.  Sea Jellies are not fish so you don’t call them jelly fish.  They were called “Moon Jellies”. After that we saw some sting ray, fish and grey nurse sharks.  Then we say a HUGE salt water crocodile. It’s name was Pinjarra.  He had big sharp teeth and he only got one chicken a week!  Then we saw a 4D movie.  It was awesome and last of all we saw the penguins!  They were so cute.  Then we went back to school.  I sat next to Aspen. I loved the trip!

Sea Life Aquarium

On Friday, the Prep, One, Twos went to the Melbourne Aquarium.  We travelled on the Jacobsons bus.  Our first stop was on the Hume Freeway for our fruit break and a toilet stop.  After that we hopped back on the bus and drove all the way to the Aquarium.  We stopped out the front of it and ate our Recess. When we had finished we sat at the steps and waited for our teacher to come out.  When she came out she gave us a card of fish.  We had to find all the fish on the card.  I found them all.  After that we had a toilet break.  Once everyone had finished we went to see rays, fish and sharks.  Our next stop was at a rockpool.  We saw shark eggs, shells and a sea star.

After that we saw lion fish, sea horse, Dory’s, Nemo’s, sea dragons, frogs, lizards, turtles and penguins.  Our teacher took us to see the world’s biggest shark, ray and swordfish.  My favourite bit was seeing a crocodile eating a chicken.  After that we had a quick drive over to a playground.  We ate our lunch there.  Once everyone had finished we had a play on the playground.  Then we drove all the way back home.

Sea Life Aquarium

On Friday we went to the Aquarium.  We left at a quarter to 7.   Bob was our bus driver.  He was funny.  Our first stop was the Hume Freeway.  That is where we had fruit.  Our second stop was the Aquarium where we had recess.  Our instructor’s name was Peta.  She told us about the things we were going to see and then she let us explore in our groups.

My favourite was Pinjjara, the croc, eating a frozen chicken.  He only gets one a week.  I loved seeing him crunch it and play with it.  After the Aquarium we went to a big playground.  After that we dropped off Fran and met our parents back at school at 5 o’clock.  I loved the Aquarium and I want to go back soon, like really soon.

Melbourne Aquarium

I liked going to the Aquarium and look at the fish because it was fun and I loved the seahorse because they hold on with their tails.

Melbourne Aquarium

On Friday 1/2KS and 1/2MW went to the Sea Life Aquarium. I saw a shark smile at me and I saw lots of penguins. We didn’t get to see the movie. I like the rays because of their funny face. I also like the rays because they did some funny things. I liked the sharks because one of them smiled at me. My favourite animal I saw was the crocodile because the crocodile was like “ha ha ha you can’t get me.”
