Catholic Identity

Mercy Prayer
We pray for the Sisters of Mercy, who established our school and for the priests who have served at
St. Mary’s. It is through their vision, determination and strong faith that we enjoy the benefits of a
Catholic Education here in Mooroopna.
We are proud to be a Mercy School, where the values of love and justice are taught and lived every day.
Sacramental Program - Sacrament of Eucharist
The Sacrament of first Eucharist will be celebrated at St.Mary's Church on Saturday 24th November at 6.30pm and also at the 10.00am Mass on Sunday 25th November. Please keep the candidates in your prayers as they complete the preparation for the sacrament.
Family Mass - Sunday 11th November
The Parish Mass on Sunday 11th November will be a Family Mass. We hope to see lots of our school families there. Help is needed for the singing, reading and other jobs. The Junior Unit is organising this mass and will be allocating the jobs.
Socktober - Appeal for the Missions
This October, we want people to prove that even a small act of love can make a big difference in the lives of our neighbour.
Help sock it to poverty!
Socktober is an easy and fun movement to help the homeless in your community during the month of October. Each class has a ‘sock jar’ and by making a donation they will be helping the poor people in the world – many who are homeless. Socktober is an initiative of Catholic Mission and one way which our school can fundraise and assist Catholic Mission during World Mission Month in October.
Today we had a "Crazy Sock Day" to raise money for the Missions. Already in our class "Sock Jars" we have raised $196.10.
Sacramental Program for 2019
Next year we will be celebrating the Sacraments of Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation.
Confirmation will be for children in Grade Six who have previously made their Reconciliation and Eucharist. This Sacrament will be celebrated on Sunday 15th September at 11.30am by Bishop Leslie Tomlinson.
Children in Grade Three (2019) and any children above Grade Three who have not previously made Reconciliation will be invited to join the Sacramental Program. Reconciliation will take place in Term One. First Eucharist will take place later in the year.
Parenting Advice
Love for most of us, discovered within the ordinariness of every day family life. God chooses ordinary and imperfect people – mums and dads – to reveal his extraordinary love. For this reason, Pope Francis describes married couples as "living icons" of God's creative love.
This year, the Archdiocese of Melbourne's Life, Marriage & Family Sunday takes up this idea with the theme: Living Icons - Mothers, Fathers and the Gospel of the Family. Resources created, look at the unique yet complementary gifts of motherhood and fatherhood and the powerful role, parents play in raising and forming their children. While none of us are perfect, children are best served when those they look up to – especially their parents – resolve never to stop striving for the perfection that Christ calls us to (Mt 5:48). The resources below have been designed to give practical suggestions and tips to encourage all, in the daily realities of family life.
