Great start to 2020

Congratulations parents and students on completing the third week of school.

The preps are settling in well, everyone is getting used to the school routine and some lovely friendships are forming. I could not be more pleased with the dynamic prep teaching team that we have this year, everyone is sharing ideas and supporting one another. The Grade 1 students are looking very grown up now that we have 90 new preps on the block! Mrs. Cerf, Mr Stewart and Mrs. Wilke are doing such a great job at motivating and guiding these little ones. Grade 2 has established a solid rhythm; they are a positive bunch and I get the feeling they are really enjoying having Mr. Matthews who loves the outdoors. Miss Hutton has taken the boys by surprise, they were sad they were leaving Mr. Matthews but quickly released that Miss Hutton is a country girl who loves cricket, netball, swimming and pretty much every sport. She is working wonders with this class. Mr De Sosa is one cool ‘cat in the hat’, he is enjoying teaching a small class of Grade 4 students and giving them lots of one-on-one attention. He is particularly good at playing the guitar so I can hear a lot of singing, mostly times tables, coming from his classroom. Grade 5 makes me smile, as Miss Yang is very strict and has high expectations. The students are focused and working hard, I am looking forward to seeing all that they achieve this year. It is wonderful to see how well things are coming along.

In regards to the building project, there has been so much activity of late. We will be changing the power over on Friday the 13th March, so please don’t forget there is no school on this day. Our plan is to move the Grade 1-5 classes over to the new building during the school holidays so any assistance would be appreciated. Most of the curbs required for the new road have been completed and stones have been laid. I am looking forward to pulling down the temporary fencing, this will improve the overall look and feel of the school.

A few parents have asked about installing traffic lights, this is certainly something that needs to be done in the future but comes with a huge price tag of one million dollars. The council has requested that our school covers the full expense. This is something we would like to negotiate further as many people within the Wyndham Community also use this roundabout and would benefit from traffic signalization, not just our College families. In the meantime, we recommend that parents drop students off as early as possible (not earlier than 8.25am) to help with the flow in the morning. You can also use the Kiss & Collect Bays in the afternoon as they are much faster than parking. Just ask your child to meet you at the Prep (old) playground – you can’t leave your car, but we will see you, I can help them to reach your vehicle safely.

Thanks again to the wonderful Parent & Friends Association who supported us at the Parent Information evening, and thank you to the parents who joined us – I really enjoyed sharing our vision for the future, but most of all, introducing you to our fantastic team of teachers. I am sure everyone can see how dedicated they are and how much they care about the children.
