PHYSICAL EDUCATION NEWS

WOW! So we have hit the ground running this term with our annual Swimming Carnival held on Monday.  It was a beautiful day not to hot, especially after the weekend! All students had a wonderful time.  We had some great 50 metre races in preparation for our WESA district athletics.    I would like to say a very big thank you to the teachers and parents who came along and helped out on the day.  It was great to hear everyone encouraging their house swimmer.  The house chant was a great one this year.  Head over to Facebook if you would like to see it.

The winner of the house chant were Mungarra followed closely by Timbarra. The overall winner on the day was Timbarra.  Congratulations to all everyone and we look forward to our District day later in February.  

It has been a great start to PE this week we have worked on our ways of working in PE and how we can have a growth mindset.  

We have been playing teamwork games in all year levels and working on our fundamental movement skills.

Our focus for this term will be :

Foundation - Playground games and athletics

Grade 1  and 1/2 - Playground games and athletics

Grade 2/3 and 3/4 - Invasion games and athletics

Grade 5/6M and 5/6K - Invasion games and athletics

Looking forward to a very busy term.

INTERSCHOOL SPORT

For the year 5/6 students our interschool sport will be starting on Friday 15 Feb this will be a home game for us.  If any parents is able to help out looking after a team between 9:00-11:00am it you could please let me know.  Thank you in advance.

STEAM NEWS

At the start of the year for STEAM we are focusing on our technology.  For all students they will be coding.  They might be using the blu bots or using the computer and working through the program code.org.

This is a great opportunity for students to work at their own pace and to use their critical thinking  and maths skills.  

ART NEWS

We would like to welcome Miss Annie Paterno to Weeden Heights.  Annie will be part of the specialist team teaching Visual Arts. Make sure you come and say hello and see what is happening in the art room. 

WHAT'S HAPPENING IN VISUAL ART

At Weeden Heights Primary School, we have started off in the Visual Arts with such joy and creativity! The classroom has been given a fresh coat of paint and has been designed to display more of the student’s artworks throughout Term 1 and 2. Students are provided with 80-minute sessions each week and engage in various art forms such as painting, collaging, sewing, sculpture and art appreciation.

The students will be analysing and responding to the literacy books explored within art. Students are encourages to be confident to have-a-go at using and exploring art tools, mediums and to personal express their ideas.

Grade 1 and 2: Suri’s Wall by Lucy Estela and Matt Ottley

Grade 3 and 4: Window by Jeanie Baker

Grade 5 and 6 : The Matchbox Diary by Paul Fleischman

 

The Visuals Arts Program with be linked and integrated with other curriculum areas and parents are welcome to support the program. The Art skills explored are based on the elements and principles of visual art : line, shape, colour, tone, form and texture, unity, harmony, balance.
