It is such a pleasure to have all students back on site, and it is clear that students are very happy to be back. Some students have found the return to daily routine challenging, and we are here to support all in getting back into the swing of things. Can I remind all families of the importance of preparing for the week, maintaining positive relationships with teachers with regard to learning and assessments, and to ensuring good sleep patterns as well as looking for opportunities for exercise. We humans are designed to move, and a healthy approach to daily physical activity helps all areas of our lives.
This week (Thursday 26th) there will be catch ups for immunisations missed during covid at year 7. Also, year 10s will receive immunisations that are due. The Whittlesea nurses will attend to these efficiently and with minimum interruption to classes.
We have had news that our Orientation Day may now proceed on Tuesday, 8th December. This is great news and will provide our prospective new year 7s with the opportunity to begin to know our school. I have been touring our main feeder primary schools with our Transition Care Team and meeting the many eager year 6 students. The year has been a challenging one for them and this creates the need for a careful approach at our end to be sure all feel comfortable and excited about the wonder of transition to secondary school. Should you have children in your family commencing in 2021, or know of families starting, please reassure them and remind them about Orientation Day. It was great to be able to provide an online forum for information evening last week. This was very well-attended by our new year 7 families.
Some of you may have noticed developments in the grounds at the David Street side of the College, close to our administration buildings. Having finally secured a grant to create our Bush Tucker Oven and Indigenous Garden, this is now underway, with the core of the oven now erected. Students are now working with artists from Honeyweather and Speight (Designers who have built many wonderful and whimsical creations around Australia) to establish their design so that construction can begin. We very much look forward to the work of the students. When completed, this site will provide a delightful meeting place for staff, students and our wider community.
