Capital Works Project - $26 Million
Today Bronwyn Halfpenny visited our school to announce that Lalor Secondary College would receive $26 million in Capital works funding for the modernisation of the schools buildings as part of the Victorian Government’s Infrastructure Planning and Acceleration Fund. The school capital program is at the forefront of the Education State reforms, which are providing students and teachers across Victoria with 21st century learning facilities. This will be confirmed in the State Budget and announced by the Premier on Tuesday the 24th of November. This will see a new Gymnasium built on the school grounds as well new classrooms and learning spaces.
As part of this announcement the multi-story 100’s building will be de-commissioned at the end of 2020. As a result of this decision you will notice that the school will have many portables placed around the school to replace the facilities located in this building. This will include the Administration Area, Library and classrooms to name a few.
The general office / administration will move out of the 100’s building in the last two weeks of 2020 to the portables located near the Science Centre Carpark. This will become the new entry to the school and will remain like this until the building works are complete. The rest of the facilities will close for the last two weeks of the year so everyone can move into the new classrooms that will be placed onto the back oval. These will remain on site as the building works are completed in line with the money we will receive as part of the capital works project.
There may be some disruption over the next 18 months to the school program, however this short term disruption will end with the school having new facilities to deliver learning in line with the community’s expectations and
We are all very excited and cannot wait to see what our new school will look like in the coming years.
Remembrance Day
On Wednesday the 11th of November the school commemorated Remembrance Day. A day that is of special significance to all Australians, commemorating the end of the Great War and the loss of Australian lives in all wars, conflicts and peace operations.
The school held a service at the flag poles which was led by 3 of our Year 11 students, Tash, Emily and Hitarth. They did a great job in expressing the importance of this day to all of our students as well as reading several key passages and poems linked to the service that included: In Flanders Field and the Reading of The Ode, taken from Laurence Binyon’s poem ‘For the Fallen”.
