Return to school
As we prepare to transition back to school after the remote learning journey, there may be mixed emotions for the students. Some are keen to return to class to see their friends, to get out of the house and to get back into the ‘old normal’ routine. Others may be anxious and uncertain about getting back into the class or reconnecting with their mates.
Regardless of the circumstance, it is important they all start back on Monday 26 October. Avoid letting them stay home a little longer. The sooner they can get back into their routine and class, the easier each day will become.
Encourage your son to take responsibility for getting back into the swing of things the week before school starts, which unfortunately means an end to any late-night Xbox marathons or social media communication.
Talk through any issues or fears they might have. These may include issues about friends, their grades or their teachers. Instead of focusing on hypothetical ‘what ifs’, try and steer them towards ‘what is’…and what they can do to change the situation.
Transition preparations are in full swing. The usual transition programs have been amended to accommodate the impact on VCE exams.
