YEAR 11 INTERVIEWS

Currently, interviews are being conducted with students in Year 11, to ensure their options beyond Year 12, are on track to help in the decision-making process. This is an exciting time for them as they now enter into the HSC year and it is important for them to do their personal research and planning.

TO DROP A SUBJECT the process is:

1)    BEFORE INTERVIEW students are required to update their resume

2)    BOOK IN AN INTERVIEW

3)    FILL OUT YELLOW DROPPING SHEET FORM

4)    INTERVIEW with Careers Adviser and paperwork  will be signed

IN2UNI workshop: FUTURE FINDER

Eight mentors from UOW came to our school to discuss with Year 11 students the different options for their future, whether it is going on to university, full-time work, trades or other registered training organisations. This was a positive activity brought to our school from UOW as we are an IN2uni school and it was to help students to start careers conversations. An extra bonus was to have ex LIHS student, Stephanie Luo, come back as one of our mentors and discuss options and pathways.

FIRST AID COURSE

All of Year 10 are invited to participate in a two-day workshop to complete their First Aid Certificate. If any Year 11 students missed out last year they are also welcome to attend. Notes will be distributed to students and the workshop will be on the 23rd - 24th November. This will be a heavily subsidized course to ensure all can participate. Notes can be collected from the Careers Office and please note that students going into Year 11 PDHPE course or Year 12 SLR are required to participate.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Students in Year 10 and 11 are now able to attend work experience this term. There is a new Student Placement Record to fill out and businesses will need to have a Covid Plan for students to attend. I am happy to assist but students who are keen, organised and prepared to ask employers can make this happen this term. Work experience is a useful way of gaining skills, knowledge and understanding of possible careers.

COURSES AND OPPORTUNITIES

There are different opportunities that students transitioning beyond LIHS can participate in. TAFE for Semester 1 2021 is now open for people to enrol into courses. UOW College has revised updates on applications for pathways to university. iTec has new accredited courses and many more opportunities. For support or further information, please contact the Careers Office. All information is also put on the Lake Illawarra High School Careers Facebook page.
