Katrina Trewin

Congratulations to Katrina Trewin who was recognised for 35 of service to the Education Department.  Katrina is a valued member of our science team and she works tirelessly to support students in their science endeavours. The Recognition of Service ceremony is an annual event that recognises and celebrates dedication, loyalty and longevity of service to the Department of Education.

We asked Katrina for a recap on her time here at Rochester Secondary College;

"After graduating from Bendigo College of Advanced Education (now Latrobe University) in 1984 with a Bachelor of Applied Science, I started work at Rochester Secondary College as the Laboratory Technician in what has been my first and only job. When Shirley Kneebone, who was the retiring Lab Tech at the time, showed me around the school I clearly remember her telling me I would love the job and what a great place it was to work. Little did I know how true her words were and 36 years later I am still here.

I have not only had a great team of passionate and talented science teachers to work with over the years to help deliver the science curriculum to several generations of fantastic students but have also have been lucky to be involved in lots of fun camps and coaching many sporting teams, all of which I have loved and has enabled me to get to know the students outside of the classroom environment as well.

In my time at RSC I have worked under 6 different Principals, seen the demolition and been involved with the rebuild of the science rooms twice, the shift from optional to compulsory school uniform, a change from 3 to 4 school terms, the introduction of computers, been a part of the Outdoor Ed program including kayaking and bushwalking camps, coaching our netball teams to state finals and being Campaspe House teacher when we have won athletics and swimming carnivals just to name a few changes and highlights I have seen over the years.

Friends have asked me why I have never moved on but with such a varied and interesting job, no day is ever the same, and many of my work colleagues also being my good friends, why would you want to work anywhere else?"
