ART NEWS

It has been fantastic to be back at school creating art with the students after Remote Learning.

This term the seniors have been working on their clay modelling skills, creating small Christmas objects, learning how to coil, roll and create pinch pots as the base of their piece.  The students have also been working on their joining skills, learning the importance of scoring the clay correctly and using slurry to join two pieces together.  Whilst working with the clay we have discovered how sometimes we can have success and at other times not and this is the nature of working with clay.  Once the modelling was completed, the students used underglaze paints to add some details before glazing their piece.  Once this process is finished this week, the pieces will be fired before being ready for Christmas.

The Juniors this term have been getting their hands dirty, exploring and investigating the different effects they can create using different paint tools.  They have used fine brushes to paint small details on their clay chickens, created large paintings of cats from different points of view using sponges, card, forks and skewers and last week painted beautiful fields of poppies for Remembrance Day, learning how to scrape paint across the paper.  They also created a lighter and darker shade of green to used in their fields.

It has also been a busy term creating artworks for Specialist Day and Book Week, which now decorate the walls around the spaces. The school is full of colour and beautiful artwork and staff have commented on how it looks like an art gallery.  Hopefully you have now viewed these pieces, plus all the fabulous art work the students have created throughout the year in our Digital Art Show.

SCAVENGER HUNT

As part of the Digital Art Show we are running a Scavenger Hunt Competition for the Juniors and Seniors.  You will find the link to the entry form at the bottom of the Home Page under the buttons that take you to the learning spaces work.  All you need to do is click on the link and you will find some more clues.  When you have found the answer, fill in the form, name, homegroup and the answer then press submit.  You will only be able to fill in this form once, so be careful filling it in.  All the correct entries will go into a draw where only 1 name for the juniors and seniors will be drawn out as the winner. Entries close on 27th November.
