A Colourful Success!

This year has been a challenging one for many people in our community, but with difficulties comes opportunities to be positive, to build resilience and to connect and appreciate the people around you.

During our Pupil Free Day this week, we gave staff the opportunity to connect with other members of the team to reflect on some professional and community highlights from 2020. There were so MANY!

As teachers, when we're so focussed on Teaching and Learning, assessment, reporting, responding to emails and caring for our students, we sometimes forget to celebrate the fabulous community that we have at Lockleys North.

2020 has provided huge opportunities to continue building the foundations of our community based on the strong values of Pursuit of Excellence, Honesty, Care and Concern and Respect.

It has been wonderful to see our school grounds reflect our connection with Kaurna land. The magnificent work of Alisha Fox (our Aboriginal Education Teacher), artist Scott Rathman and the excellent work that all staff have embarked on with Jack Buckskin have been a highlight of our year. If you haven't popped into our school recently, please come and see the art work - our shipping containers and our beautiful fence mural.

Recognition was also acknowledged for our Governing Council - their continued support through the tough times helped ALL staff to know that the work they do is appreciated, while their support and time have enabled school events like Sports Day to take place - I'm sure none of them anticipated being COVID Marshals on the gates as we started the year!

Our Chairperson, Michele D'Aloia, has been nothing short of phenomenal throughout the year - working tirelessly for many hours to support our community - she really has gone above and beyond! Her positive and uplifting outlook has had a significant impact on the wellbeing of our staff, which in turn positively impacts all of our students.

Thank you to our many families who supported our very different Sports Day last week - it was great to see so many of you.

Students and all of our House Captains have certainly stepped up this year and it has been a pleasure to watch over their growth. Hearing our educators talk positively about Team Points, Team Meetings and their 'sense of belonging' and connection across our site was great recognition of the work and behaviour that our students continue to demonstrate every day.

A fun time was had by all our students and the day was definitely a colourful success! I know that nobody would have foreseen a second successive victory for Grallina, who included a bottle of hand sanitiser among their ranks (touché Thomas)!

Congratulations to all of Grallina and indeed to all our students in Brian, Malurus and Pierson - you continue to embrace our school values and set the example within our community.

A message from our Captains...

First and foremost we want to thank everyone in Grallina, you guys did an amazing job pushing yourselves, cheering, being good sports and we’re really proud to have guided you guys into winning this year’s sports day. We know you gave everything your best shot and you proved that Grallina is the best team.

We also want to thank the teachers and everyone who helped bring this sports day to life, even through all the issues we’ve had this year. They’ve done an amazing job changing, evolving and making sports day better for everyone.

Ms. Byrnes and Mr. Smith deserve their own special thank you for making this sports day as great as it was. The health hustle team also deserves a massive thank you for helping the teachers and the captains with the health hustle and sports day.

Next we want to thank all the other teams for all demonstrating good sportsmanship and we all deserved to win today given how hard we all worked. We all did amazing today and we hope that everyone had loads of fun throughout sports day.

Finally, we want to thank and congratulate everyone at LNPS. From the teachers, to the captains and the students we all appreciate how hard you all had worked to make this win possible for us.

And finally...

It is with great pleasure that I acknowledge this final person. The first student to achieve 250+ Pursuit of Excellence points for Team Grallina. I have had many visits throughout the year from this young superstar wanting to share his learning.

Well done Isaac (M6) - a truly magnificent achievement! Our Grallina Captains have presented Isaac with our sew on patch for his 'Pursuit of Excellence' - wear it with pride!
