Message from the

Head of Junior School

Mr Rob McLean

Dear Parents,

With the restrictions on excursions being relaxed a little, the opportunity has arisen to take advantage of what the Central West offers in the way of learning about the world we live in.

In coming weeks Kindergarten will visit “Rosedale” a property on the fringes of Orange where some fascinating developments are occurring on their property. Pre-Kindy are heading to the school property “ Windermere” for a whole day experiencing education outside a classroom and further expanding on their previous visits. The idea to combine classroom activities such as group time and letterland with the adventures of being on the farm, incorporating literacy and numeracy activities as well as some art and craft, but allowing plenty of time for children to explore, imagine and create. Year 1 will also be visiting “Windermere” studying living things in our environment while Year 3 will be trekking around Mt Canobolas as part of their unit of work in Geography. Year 5 are also planning an excursion based on their creative Science, Maths & Geography unit. No details can be revealed as yet as their investigations continue! As they say in the classics, more will be revealed!

Our end of year activities has required adjustments across many areas. Unfortunately, our Grandparents and Open Days have been cancelled as has the Year 6 Dinner with Council. Camps in Outdoor Education week have also been cancelled for 2020. Further information concerning this week for different year groups will be forthcoming.

On a positive note our musicals/dramas will take place later this term with entertaining productions being prepared across all years. Again, it will have restrictions in terms of audiences but alternate plans are being investigated.

This year, the Celebration Assembly set down for Wednesday 2nd December has been altered. With audience attendance restricted to students and staff only it will be a full day at School. The assembly will be held at the end of the day at 2pm after which students go home at normal time to conclude the school year for Junior School.

Junior School students will not be involved with the Speech Day on the Thursday, with academic awards presented at Celebration Assembly, the previous day. The assembly will be streamed live to parents.

We will continue to keep you informed of the end of year activities.

Also, a reminder that sport on Monday and Wednesday afternoons concludes at 4:30pm. Supervision is available for 20 minutes following sport. Your assistance would be appreciated.

At Assembly we acknowledged the following students:

  • Lilly Kilby - Commitment Award (Week 2)
  • Michael Gurr - Citizenship Award (Week 2)

Enjoy your week.
