Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

EVERYDAY COUNTS

Going to school every day is the single most important part of your child’s education. Students learn new things at school every day. Attending and participating in school will help your child develop:

  • important skills and knowledge to help them learn
  • social and emotional skills such as good communication, resilience and team work.

The below table shows just how much school a child can miss by even just having one day off a fortnight.

PUBLIC HOLIDAY - MONDAY 13TH MARCH

Labour Day Public Holiday is Monday 13th March. Students are not required at school.

YEAR 5 CAMP SOVEREIGN HILL - WEDNESDAY 2ND to FRIDAY 4TH AUGUST

Expression of interest forms have been sent out with Year 5 students for the upcoming Sovereign Hill Camp on Wednesday 2nd to Friday 4th August. Please return the slip by Friday 17th March so that the final cost can be determined. If you did not receive a note, please let your classroom teacher know.

DIVISION TENNIS

Congratulations to Nico Savage who competed in Division Tennis today at the Lawn Tennis Courts!

REGIONAL SWIMMING CARNIVAL

Congratulations to Sam and Asha who have both qualified for the Regional Swimming Carnival in Horsham! They will both be competing in 50m backstroke events. This is such a great achievement to be competing at this level.

NAPLAN - WEDNESDAY 15TH TO MONDAY 27TH MARCH

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) assesses literacy and numeracy skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life. Students in Years 3 and 5 will participate in the annual NAPLAN tests in reading, writing, language conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.

The tests provide parents and schools with an understanding of how individual students are performing at the time of the tests. NAPLAN tests are just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process; they do not replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance.

NAPLAN tests also provide schools, education authorities and governments with information about how education programs are working and whether young Australians are meeting important educational outcomes in literacy and numeracy.

COLOUR RUN - FRIDAY 19TH MARCH

The fundraising committee are well underway with their organisation of this years Colour Run which will be on Friday 17 March 2023.

It’s expected to be another fun-filled event at Jamo and a great fundraiser for our school. We are keen to raise money to put towards a new Basketball/Netball court which we certainly need. There will be helpers required so please get on board and help where you can. It’s also incredibly important that we raise as many funds as we can to upgrade our outdoor playing surfaces. Donations can be made through Compass Tix using this link https://compasstix.com/e/izafe7pu7s or sponsor sheets have been sent home and cash donations will be accepted at the school office.

The Canteen will be open at lunchtime offering a small variety of snack options.

WORKING BEE - SATURDAY 25TH MARCH

Roll up your sleeves for the school working bee on Saturday 25th March from 9am. We would love to see as many families as possible come and assist.

HIGH SCHOOL OPEN NIGHTS

Warrnambool College and Brauer College have their opening nights coming up in March.

It's important that if you are looking at sending your child to one of these high schools that you attend these nights.

Have a great weekend!
