PREP

This week in Prep has been very exciting. We are getting better and better at identifying our letters and their sounds. Preps are focusing on m, s, a, p, c, t, i and n and using these letters to form words like Tim, tap, mat and map. This week our sentence of the week is I can sit on the mat with my map. We have been tracing the sentence, cutting it up and putting it in the right order and writing it on a whiteboard.

In Maths we are onto our final week of shape. The Preps have learnt two new shapes this week. These shapes are 3D and are a sphere and a cube. We looked at lots of examples and had to decide if it was a sphere which is round all the way around or a cube with lots of pointy corners. Some examples were a basketball, rubix cube, orange, ice cube, present and the planet.

A reminder that next week is school sport day on Friday. Parents are invited to attend and watch us as we have a go at lots of games and activities before we do a relay race and sprint. Your child was given a certificate welcoming them to their sports team. This is either blue, red or gold. If you are not sure what team your child is in please contact your classroom teacher. Students are encouraged to wear their sports colour to the sports day next week.

GRADE 1/2

Can you believe that we are at the end of Week 8 already? This term is flying by and we are having a blast in Year 1 & 2.

School Photos - We had our school photos today and the Year 1 & 2 students were looking great! We can't wait for the photos to return to school later in the year!

Prayer Gathering - Kascha's Year 1 class will have their prayer gathering on Friday morning at the church. As always, we invite parents and friends along to pray with us at 9am. The Year 1's in Leah and Miriam's class are also preparing their prayer gathering and will be sharing theirs in Week 9.

Mathematics - All students in Year 1 and 2 will continue their work on number lines, as well as building, recognising and ordering numbers to 100 and to 1000. We have been so impressed by their hard work. This is a very tricky concept and all students have shown an outstanding willingness to learn.

School Sports - We are so excited for sports next friday. We ask for the students to come dressed in their house colours. Fun Food will be provided, but we suggest still packing a lunch box for the day! It is also super important to make sure that your child bring a labelled drink bottle and appropriate footwear.

Homework - All students have been doing a wonderful job returning their homework folders and library books on a Friday! This system has been working beautifully, however next Friday we have our school sports, and the following Friday will be Good Friday. As a result, in week 9 and 10 we are asking for students to bring their homework, readers and library books to school on THURSDAY.

GRADE 3/4

The excitement is building in Year 3 and 4 with so many special events coming up. Next Friday, 31st March, we have our School Sports. Students have been practising the events during PE and are looking forward to the day. Students are welcome to dress up in their house colours and we would love to have our families along to cheer us on. There will be a Fun Food barbecue during the sports.

Our other super exciting event is our school camps. With just 13 sleeps to go until we head off to camp, please remember to complete any necessary medical forms and return asap.

Congratulations to our Year 3 students who have now completed all the NAPLAN testing. We could not be prouder of the way they approached this testing, they all gave it their absolute best.

In Numeracy we are learning to read time. Students are using clocks to make and read analogue time. So when your child is asking you, “What’s the time?” encourage them to read the time themselves. Next week, we will also be learning how to read and use calendars.

GRADE 5/6

It has been a busy week in the senior school as we move towards the end of Term 1. We had a great day at the Central Reserve last Friday for our school athletics trials and have selected students to represent the school next Thursday for the divisional athletics at the same venue.

Congratulations to the Grade 5’s who completed their NAPLAN earlier this week. It has been a hectic few weeks and all the students put in their best effort. Well done to all.

Back in the classroom, we continue to work on our unit in addition and subtraction in Numeracy. In Literacy, our focus has been on comprehension and we are starting our unit on narratives in Writing. We are wrapping up our unit on needs and wants in Inquiry and students are looking at stations of the cross in Religion.

A reminder that next week is our school sports, which will be held at the Lake Oval on the Friday, the day after the Colac Divisional Athletics. There may be some tired students by the end of next week.
