Year 6 Reviews on Camp Rumbug

The Amazing Camp Rumbug!

Camp Rumbug 2023

The Year 5 & 6s got off the bus with Teachers including Mrs Smith and a few more with our bags on back. I was ready, we walked and walked until we were at the amazing marvellous… Squeaky Beach! I was so excited, I quickly ran to the beach and ran and ran. We reached a little sand dune and we all ran down, at tremendous speed, our legs couldn’t keep up! Luckily I didn't trip on the sand. I kept running towards the end, we turned a corner and there it was… Wilson’s Prom.

After that amazing experience, we got back on the bus and we were finally at Camp Rumbug, we all went into our cabins and they were amazing. We all unpacked our bags and went out to dinner then it was finally time for the disco party! I pretended to be asleep in my teddy bear sleeping bag! We played a few games like musical statues and many others. It was truly amazing and that was the end of day 1.

For day 2 of Camp, we got to go first on the Giant Swing, it was truly massive! It’s like a swing but for a giant toddler. I was one of the first to go on, I went higher and higher until I was at the top. I pulled the string and I was released… I was falling like a rock into water, but then I swung up high and I also saw Bob the Kangaroo in the distance! It was a really terrifying experience but it was pretty fun.

At the end of the activity, we saw the other group all covered in mud and all wet, Ethan had bathed in the mud! Then it was our turn to do the mud run, I didn’t really want to do it because I didn’t want to get muddy because I would be freezing cold, all wet and would ruin my clothes. But when we got there, some people started to bathe in the mud. Before the race started, we all saw the parkour that we had to do.

Right after we all got to do canoeing and it was really fun, although someone wasn’t listening and we went the wrong way multiple times! When we arrived at our cabins again we all got to shower.

Then for my favourite part, archery. I love archery because when I was a kid I used to have a plastic bow and some rubber arrows. We arrived at the archery and I was super excited. When it was my turn I put the arrow in the bow, and first try I hit the red space on the target! We also had a second go at doing it and it was amazing!

At night we sang a lot of songs with Chad at the campfire. After that we got to watch Finding Nemo. I sadly fell asleep but it was alright and after we went to bed.

On the 3rd Day, I woke up at 6:00 AM and packed up. After 9 am, we went to do Aeroball, it was all wet but it was pretty fun. Then we all united for the last time for lunch before we got on the bus, and finally went back to school.

Camp Rumbug by Thomas H

On Wednesday 22nd of March, Years 5 and 6 went to PGL Camp Rumbug. On the way to camp, we had a beautiful excursion through Wilson’s Prom and Squeaky Beach. When the bus approached the Camp I could feel the excitement going through me already. We set up our cabins, learned our groups and started the real camp experience with a DISCO. It went on for a few hours and we played many games with our bodies pumped up. The aftermath of the party was everyone still being really excited. Our cabin stayed up and played some UNO and I decided to scare the other people in our cabin, and their reaction was quite extreme you could say! But little did we know that this was just the beginning of our epic journey of Camp Rumbug

Day two blew our minds just from the first hours of the day. Our first activity was a GIANT SWING. You get pulled up higher and higher until you decide to stop and from there it’s all you. Pull the string and go flying back and forth, at high speeds, towards the ground. As we packed up to go to our next activity, we saw the other group come to the giant swing, COVERED in mud. And just from that I learnt how muddy our next activity could get. I looked at the schedule. It was time for the MUD-RUN. You would do an obstacle course with mud on every turn and obstacle. You would have to climb walls and hills and run through puddles, filled with mud and dirt. They would give us a practice run so we knew the course but that was them just giving us mercy, because the true run would be much harder as a race.

The next activity would be less muddy if you didn’t capsize, and that would be canoeing. I was paired up with Hamish and we were a good team and ended up having tons of fun. Next was Archery, probably the most underrated activity there, I personally really like Archery. I did pretty well. We then went back to our cabins and prepared for the campfire. We had stories, snacks and named our campfire Chad. Campfire was probably one of the best night activities I’ve ever had at camp. Then of course at any camp, we have to have a movie, it was Finding Nemo. And finally, officially, after a tough day, camp had tired us to sleep.

On the last day we woke up with a sense of excitement and sadness as it would be our last day but the BEST activities because we soon learnt that the activities that we had planned had been changed. They were now Aeroball and Initiative exercises. Aeroball is really like basketball on trampolines, yeah quite the game. And Initiative exercises may not sound much fun but are actually surprisingly exciting. We did riddles, games that require teamwork and cooperation and weird but interesting puzzles. And we also made a new camp record, and we just beat it by 2 seconds! The last day had to be the biggest mix of emotions through the camp and I really enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend this to anybody who likes getting their hands dirty and challenging themselves to new heights!
