Year 1 Unit

Hello to all Year One families!

Congratulations to the Year Ones for their wonderfully informative and entertaining ‘Show and Tell’ presentations throughout Term 1. We have all enjoyed learning a little bit more about our special students, the things they enjoy and their families’ background. We were very impressed with the level of confidence that the students showed when talking with the class. Stay tuned for the Term 2 ‘Show and Tell’ timetable.

Last week we enjoyed celebrating ‘Harmony Day’. We spent the day by sharing stories of people from different cultures and we made handprints for our school tree. Quite a special day!

As part of our Science topic “Bend it – Stretch it”, we have been learning about how objects and materials can be physically changed. We would like the students to identify changes to an everyday object at home. Please see the Compass alert that was sent out this week for details. On Wednesday 5th April, the students will be asked to present their object through a drawing, photograph or written observations explaining what the object is made of and the effect of changes on it. Examples are, boiled vegetables, squeezing water out of a sponge, defrosting meat etc.

Some things to stay tuned for:

  • Easter bonnet parade – Wednesday 5th April at 9.10am

Parents are welcome to come and enjoy the parade and see the bonnets/hats the students made in class.

  • Open school – Wednesday 5th April at 3.00pm – 4.30pm. This will be followed by a picnic on the school oval.
  • Over the holidays your child will be coming home with 5 readers to compliment home reading for your holiday pleasure and enjoyment!

Maths activity of the week: Footy maths!

You’ll need: 2 dice, pencil and paper

  • 1 dice is used for the ‘points’ score and the other is used for the ‘goal’ score.
  • The first team (choose your favourite club) rolls the ‘point’ dice and writes the number down. The second team repeats.
  • The first team then rolls the ‘goal’ dice and writes the number down. The second team repeats.
  • The team with the greatest combined ‘point’ and ‘goal’ score is the winner of the first quarter.
  • Repeat the game for the second, third and final quarters to get the full-time score. Go Team!

As the term draws to a close we would like to wish our students and families a safe and wonderful break.
