School Tours

This year we will be hosting school tours every week in Term 2 from week 2 to week 9.

We will be hosting a Foundation Information Evening for parents on Tuesday May 16 between 6.30 and 7.30pm.

Music - Irish Dances

Over the last two weeks our students have been learning Irish Dances during their Performing Arts sessions. I have had the pleasure of being invited to watch these performances where our students have demonstrated great listening skills and the ability to follow all of the steps required in the dance routine.

Water safety program

Currently our Year 2/3 students are attending Water Safety lessons at Kyneton Aquatic Centre. Throughout the sessions the students learn a range of strategies to help them keep safe in and around water. A huge shout out also to the many parent helpers who are assisting.

Royal Flying Doctor

Our Year 2/3 students have had the privilege of a visit from the Royal Flying Doctors and the onsite simulator. Our students had the opportunity to make and test paper planes, go inside the plane and look at all of the medical supplies, and use the simulator. They also learnt about John Flynn, the founder of the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

Student Leaders

Last week at assembly our Environmental Leaders and Wellbeing Leaders were presented with their badges. We look forward to working with these students to develop their ideas and suggestions and build their leadership capacity.

Grip Leadership

On Wednesday all of our student leaders travelled by train with Miss Dodds and Miss Geer to attend the GRIP Student leadership Conference at the Melbourne Convention Centre. Each year this event is attended by thousands of students from across Victorian schools. Mrs. Minchew and I met with the students the day after the conference to reflect on their experience, what they learnt and how they could use their learning to have an impact in our school.

Harmony Week

Last week we celebrated Harmony Week. All classes participated in activities relating to Harmony Week.

National Ride2School Day

Last Friday many of our families engaged in National Ride to School Day. It was wonderful to see many students participating and it had the added bonus of easing the daily parking congestion. Thank you to the parents in our school who organised this event.

Professional Learning

At staff meeting last week our staff engaged in more professional learning. The learning focused on Cued Articulation and was facilitated by our Department of Education Speech Pathologist. Cued Articulation is a strategy that uses visual cues to support the correct articulation of sounds. It focuses on the development and the role of the jaw, tongue and teeth to enable correct pronunciation.

You can find more information on the link below and on You Tube.

Holidays

Just a reminder that next week is our last week of Term 1. Students will be dismissed at 2.30pm on Thursday.

Term 2

Our first day of Term 2 (Mon 24/4) is curriculum Day. The following day (Tue 25/4) is a public holiday for Anzac Day and our students will return to school for the start of Term 2 on Wednesday April 26.

We invite our parents and students to attend the ANZAC Day ceremony in Woodend. If students do attend, we suggest they wear school uniform.
