Time and Space

Year 7 Mother & Son and Year 8 Father & Son Evenings

Last week we hosted the annual Time and Space Program run by Bill Jennings. On Wednesday night nearly 80 pairs of Mother and Sons attended Mother & Son evening, sharing their experience of transition to High School. On Thursday night Year 8s participated in the Father & Son Stepping Up evening with their Fathers/mentors. It was wonderful to hear so many Fathers/mentors and boys discuss their experience of stepping up into manhood. The College is very fortunate to have the services of Bill Jennings from Time and Space facilitate the program. Congratulations to all the members of the College community who participated this year, we hope that the memories of your time together stay close to your hearts and that your relationships flourish.

Cybersafety Workshops

Last Monday all students participated in workshops around online safety and positive interactions online facilitated by Digital Thumbprint (a Trusted eSafety Provider).

Year 11 - Digital Identity and Digital Balance

During the workshop, students explored the positive uses of technology on wellbeing and how to take steps to improve their digital wellbeing through streamlining what our devices can do for us. Students were provided the opportunity to examine their social media profiles and posts through the lens a boss applies in the process of hiring and during employment and worked through improving their online identity for future success.

Year 9 and 10 - Cyberbullying

This workshop focused on understanding the importance of respectful relationships and the impact of cyberbullying It explored image based abuse & consent online.

Year 7 and 8 - Cybersecurity

This workshop educated students on how to create strong passwords, enabling privacy settings on social media, and understanding just how easily and far things can spread when shared on the internet.

Harmful Tik Tok Trend

I have been made aware of a dangerous TikTok trend known as the “thumb blowing pass out challenge” that sees teens make themselves pass out. Unfortunately, this has led to dangerous ends for some young people including head injuries and seizures. There is an urgent warning for children not to partake in the challenge. I encourage parents to be wary of the content their children might be following online.

Uniform

This year we have seen great improvement in students stepping up and wearing their formal uniform with pride in accordance with their timetable. I commend boys for their organisation in this area and Pastoral Care Teachers for helping boys to be familiar with their timetable requirements. In this it has come to our attention that some boys only have one shirt or pair of shorts for their formal uniform. The formal uniform is our default/expected uniform and I encourage families to have more than one set of items to allow for days items may need washing or transporting between homes. I also highlight runners/sandshoes are not acceptable with formal uniform and students must have a pair of black leather school shoes. If you have any concerns about the above, I encourage you to contact your son’s Pastoral Care Teacher.
