Festival

The cancellation of the Saturday Parade and Festival performances was a real blow for our students. The whole school spirit up here is very much alive and thriving, with preparations for the Parade bringing all ages and families together. Being a part of the Warrandyte Primary School community means being a part of the annual Warrandyte Festival. It's a given that our children will perform, parade and generally run amuck for the Festival weekend.

For the students it's an exciting time and the memories they take with them into adulthood of walking down the main street singing on stage each year never fade. For parents, being able to watch your child/ren laugh and wave as they pass by the large crowds, who have come out to share with the children the Festival spirit, is also a precious memory to hold.   Despite the disappointment, we adapt and move on, embracing the good news that Sunday is still happening and there will be time to sit at the main stage, enjoy music, food and drinks.

We held a pop-up Bake Sale after school on Friday to sell off some of the baked goods that were meant for the Saturday sales. In less than an hour, we make over $900 and sold out of most baked products. This is yet another demonstration of our school spirit, rallying behind our FOWPS and school.

The Sunday stall will be a huge hit and I am certain we will sell out of another batch of baked goods and 400 Bhan Mi.  With 2 Fairy floss machines this year, we are better placed to have record sales. No child seems to be able to resist the fairy floss. Thanks again to Terri Fernando, Vy Costen and the FOWPS committee for the enormous work that goes into the stall. None of it is possible without hours of preparations done in the background.

Had there been a Parade I have no doubt that our float, Calamari, would have sparked huge admiration from participants and the crowd. Eliza always out does herself.  Thanks again, to those parents and the Art's Captains, who helped in the construction of Calamari (pictured below). He proudly sits in our Bampi, brightening up our assembly space and providing a tribute to our wonderful Art program.

We went ahead with our final rehearsal on Friday, despite not being able to perform this weekend. The students were great!

Art Show

I went to the opening of the Art Show last night with School Council President, Emma Clark. Run by the local Donvale and Warrandyte Rotary Club it was a display of some amazing painting from local artists. While the Art Show is not running Saturday, you can still visit on Sunday to view or buy the artwork on display.

I encourage you to go along to support the Show as all proceeds raised at the Show will be donated to Warrandyte Primary School to help us with the Senior Building refurbishment we are aiming to do soon.  Their incredible desire to help our school will help us to achieve an internal update of the classrooms and deck area for our Senior building.

Family Fun Night - 5th April

We have decided to take the cancelation of the Parade and performances and try to turn it into something positive by ramping up our plans for the Family Fun Night to include performances by Kevin O'Mara and the Bush Band, songs from Kirsty's program and celebrate the incredible creations of the Float and children's artwork that didn't get its day in the spotlight.

Please mark the 5th April in your calendars as we are hoping to have a huge celebration and we have plenty to celebrate. There's the end of a Pandemic, Festival activities and arts, the incredible 20%+ growth in our school enrolments and the news that Bendigo Bank have, in principle, agreed to help WPS with a $45,000 grant to also go towards the Senior building refurbishment. Things are evolving up here every day, so come along to celebrate with us on the 5th April.

Perhaps I will see you around at the Sunday Festival. Take care and enjoy the day!
