Grade 2 Students

Celebrating our terrific Twos!

Literacy

Reading: We have learned and practised using ‘Connector Crab’ or ‘Spinner the Spider’ to make connections between a piece of text or book that we have read to our knowledge and experiences. We have also been completing Harmony Day activities that celebrate each of our cultural differences and what being Australian means to each of us.

Writing: Following on from our class Mr Men/Little Miss stories, students have been working on their own stories. In the planning stage, we have designed and created our characters, our characters’ homes and planned out the events of our stories. We are focusing on using WOW words to describe the inside and outside traits of our characters and key features of their home. Students have begun writing their story draft. This week, students also completed their first Cold Write recount about ‘A Day at the Beach/Park’.

Spelling: During our Sound Waves Spelling lessons, we have been looking at the /d/ sound (‘ducks dive down d d d’) and short /i/ sound (‘in the igloo i i i ’). Students are enjoying the Sound Waves program and are always engaged in the games and activities.

Maths:

We finished off our place value unit with rounding and begun our graphing unit. To link it with our theme of harmony this week, we collected data on each student's family background to create a tally chart and bar graph. Students have been utilising unifix to understand how to form the bars in a bar graph.

Respectful Relationships and Wellbeing:

In our Respectful Relationships and Wellbeing lessons, we have continued discussing our personal strengths and how these strengths can contribute to our family and school life. We identified ways to care for and include others, collaborate as a team, demonstrate kindness and resilience by creating and acting out scenarios.
