Performing Arts

This week in Performing Arts:

To celebrate Harmony Day the Foundation, Grade One and Grade Two students have learnt a children’s folk dance called the ‘Hutsul’ from the Eastern European country of Ukraine. It was wonderful to explore the very rich culture of song and dance together that is sometimes rarely taught in Australia. The children enjoyed listening to an Eastern European tune and learning some folk-dance steps to honour their culture and celebrate Harmony Day in its truest sense. We all belong together!

The children loved using a ‘prop’ in their dance, as traditionally they use sticks. The children used boom whackers as their ‘sticks’ and also enjoyed playing musical songs with the boom whackers after learning the dance. Each child was mesmerised that each different sized and coloured boom whacker played a different musical note.
