P.E.

This week in P.E.

Another fantastic couple of weeks we have had in P.E at Monty. We have been so lucky to have Eltham Lacrosse Club and Research/Lower Plenty Baseball Club come to showcase Lacrosse and Baseball at Monty Primary.

LACROSSE:

Lacrosse was a sport most students had never even heard of. We learnt the rules, the equipment and most importantly the skills required to play this super fun-filled sport. By the end of the Lacrosse week, students learnt many new skills such as throwing, catching, scooping and they even played a real game against each other. The year 5/6s loved it so much we have been able to create two Lacrosse teams for Interschool Sports, how cool!

BASEBALL:

Last week we began our month-long Baseball skills teaching and learning. So many students have never even put on a baseball glove before, that was a whole new experience! At first, they found it uncomfortable but by the end they learnt to love it. Some skills we have learnt in the first week of baseball are which hand do we throw with, which hand we catch with, how we put on the glove and which hand we wear it on. This was a learning curve, many students learnt about their dominant hand and which one they use to catch, throw and write with. We practised throwing, catching and fielding as well as learning about the baseball diamond we play on.

We have been able to learn many new skills in P.E over the last couple of weeks. The take away message is, try new things! You may love it. We look forward to working further with Research/Lower Plenty Baseball Club over the next few weeks and consolidate our skills into playing a baseball game using the skills we are learnt.

Thank you to Coach Emily from Eltham Lacrosse Club and Coach Bea and Zac from Research Lower Plenty Baseball club for demonstrating your amazing talents for us.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS:

Just a friendly reminder for timetabled sport class.

Please ensure the students have the following for P.E class on their scheduled day:

  • Appropriate footwear for sport, preferably socks and RUNNERS,
  • A HAT that has their name on it, many students are still coming to sport without a hat!
  • A DRINK BOTTLE that is labelled with their name as I allow them to bring their bottles to class,
  • School UNIFORM appropriate for the forecasted weather whether it be a hot or cold day,
  • SUNCREAM should be applied before school for a hot forecasted day.

REGIONAL SWIMMING:

Wishing our Regional swim team all the very best for the final on March the 30th; all the very best to Gus, Tess, Vianne, Scarlett, April and Jemima. You have made us all so proud!

I am looking forward to many more fun weeks in P.E!
