Grade 5/6 NGV and ACMI excursion

On Tuesday, the Grade 5/6 students headed out to the City for a bit of a combo Art and Digital Tech Excursion to see four main locations.

We started out at the National Gallery of Victoria, and after our obligatory school photo under the stained glass ceiling, we did the crazy thing at let the students go off in their own small groups... to explore a gallery... with millions of dollars worth of art... on the wall... right where they can touch it... and (as we would expect from our Macedon PS students) they were amazing.

It was great to see them exploring and engaging in the artworks, each discovering something new and hearing things like "wow, that is fascinating", or "I like how they did this", and "That is a clever way to do that"... and "Why is there so many naked people?"

This sense of wonder continued to the NGV Australia where we saw the Melbourne Now exhibition, a collection of contemporary works from artists all across Melbourne.

We explored the always-changing graffiti walls ofHosier Lane and finally ended up at ACMI to explore movies, animation, video games, and some of the costumes from Thor (which we all agreed would look great on Mr. B)

All up it was a great day, with students keen to spend all day there (and as all these locations are free, maybe a cheap school holiday activity for you)

Check out some of what we got up to in the video below from my collection of badly taken photos.

Thanks

Daniel
