NAPLAN 2023

March 2023

NAPLAN 2023

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) testing period is scheduled for Wednesday 15 March to Friday 24 March. Students in Years 7 and 9 will be assessed in Writing, Reading, Language Conventions (Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation) and Numeracy.

NAPLAN tests are delivered in an online format. This offers many benefits including:

  • A ‘tailored test’ design that adapts to correct and incorrect student responses providing a more precise understanding of student achievement
  • Innovative use of technology, including a more engaging test design and a wider range of item types
  • An extended and more flexible test window, allowing schools greater opportunity to schedule the tests at times that suit them best and increasing student participation

A public demonstration site is available for schools, teachers, parents, carers and students to familiarise themselves with the online tests.

NAPLAN results provide an important measure of how all Australian students are performing in literacy and numeracy. However, the NAPLAN report is just one component of Mullauna College’s assessment and reporting practices, and does not replace the extensive, ongoing assessments made by the English and Mathematics teachers regarding each student’s performance and progress.

All Year 7 and 9 students are required to sit the NAPLAN tests. Catch-up tests will be available for individual students who are absent on test days. They will need to bring with them a fully charged laptop and a pair of working headphones.

Students will need to bring a note written by a parent/carer to officially request a withdrawal from a particular test. A student withdrawal form will need to be signed also. These forms are available at the school.
