Mullauna Music

March 2023

All Things Music

In classroom music, we have begun the year learning about and testing all the instruments that we teach here at Mullauna College. In these lessons, students had the opportunity to hold or test any instrument of their choice. Even if they didn’t end up choosing a particular instrument to play themselves at least they have had a life experience of playing them all.

It was lovely to meet all the parents at the Information Night in our Performing Arts Centre after the year 7 BBQ.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank our students who performed at the Monday afternoon concert for the students and also the evening concert for parents. You were outstanding ambassadors for the College at these events.

I would also like to thank 2022 musician and DUX of year 12 Daniel Seymour, for coming to the evening to talk about his perspective on the music program. Without a doubt an expert being the youngest of 5 children to go through the Mullauna College Music program. We wish Daniel a fabulous journey after school and we know he will continue to enjoy his music, as he continues his studies at Melbourne University.

Nearly half of year 7 students of Mullauna College have chosen an instrument and have begun their lessons this week. Most classes are full and we have an outstanding balance across our band. There may still be a few places by the time this is published in Flute, Trombone, Euphonium and Bass Guitar classes. Please speak to  Mrs Newstead or Mr Brodie if you are interested. We look forward to our first Band rehearsal at 7.30am on Wednesday, 22 March.  Our first concert will be here before you know it, on Thursday, 25 May!

As our beginners learn to make sound, the rest of the music department is firing along with new music ready for the Mid Year Concert. The Wind Symphony sounded spectacular on Monday and the Guitar Ensemble’s repertoire is constantly extending as is the range of notes for our Concert Band. Well done all!
