Years 7-12 House Swimming Carnival
The Carnival was held at the Croydon Memorial Outdoor Swimming Pool on Friday 10 February in perfect weather for an outdoor event. It was a warm sunny day which made it a perfect day for our swimmers.
It was a very close competition between the three Houses this year at our House Swimming Carnival. Gibeon Warriors (Red House) took the lead until halfway through the event before Tabor Trojans (White House) overtook them, winning the House Swimming for 2023. Zion Crusaders (Blue House) came back strong towards the end to finish in second place, 12 points ahead of the Warriors. Blue House was crowned the winner of the House Spirit trophy. The competition for the House Spirit trophy was also very close between the three Houses, but Blue House was the most consistent throughout the day.
Place | Points | House |
---|---|---|
1st | 1070 | Tabor Trojans (White) |
2nd | 1044 | Zion Crusaders (Blue) |
3rd | 1032 | Gibeon Warriors (Red) |
There were some great performances in the pool with five new records broken this year.
Three of the five records were broken by Une Geisler (11.13) in the Open Boys 50m Breaststroke from the previous record of 35.74 since 2010 to 33.40, Open Boys 50m Butterfly from 30.32 in 2017 to 29.80 and Open Boys 50m Backstroke from 32.42 in 2016 to 29.80. Dakoda Mathers (12.7) was also a star performer with two new records in the Open Girls 50m Freestyle from 32.87 in 2007 to 30.10 and in the 100m Freestyle from 1.07.30 in 2004 to 1.04.80. Congratulations to Une and Dakoda on their great performance and achievement!
The event finished with a novelty event by our House Captains and Vice Captains to close off the day in great spirit.
Congratulations to the Trojans for winning the House Swimming trophy and to the Crusaders for winning the Spirit Trophy this year. All students who competed are to be congratulated for their contribution to their team’s points as well as all the students on the stands who contributed to the House spirit.

House Athletics Carnival
We were blessed with great weather for our annual House Athletics on Thursday 2 March. It was cloudy, but not too cold, with a great atmosphere at the event as students supported their houses throughout the day. This year the House Athletics moved back to the Tom Kelly Athletics Track in Doncaster East. The day started off with a close competition between the three houses, but one house started to increase their lead before lunch time.
After being outperformed in the swimming three weeks before, Gibeon Warriors (Red House) came back strong in the Athletics to win the day with 1,979 points, 287 points ahead for their closest rival Zion Crusaders (Blue House) who finished second with 1,692 points followed by Tabor Trojans (White House) with 1,625 points. The three houses started the carnival with a chant competition towards their points for the House Spirit trophy. This created an excellent atmosphere just before our students started their competition.
It was great to see the number of students participating for their houses, making it very difficult to predict a winning house at the end of the competition. Gibeon Warriors (Red House) also won the Spirit Trophy at the end of the day making it a double win for them. The final scores for the day are as follow:
Gibeon Warriors (Red) | Tabor Trojans (White) | Zion Crusaders (Blue) | |
---|---|---|---|
Track Scores | 1,191 | 1,016 | 1,053 |
Field Scores | 788 | 609 | 639 |
Total Scores | 1,979 | 1,625 | 1,692 |
We only had one record broken this year and that was in the Boys U/13 800m by Ryder Holland (7.1) with a time of 2.38.00.
Age Champion Athletes: Age Champions calculations are based on results in the events run on the day and the points the individual students gained for their House. Congratulations to the top three students for each year level and gender (listed below). In the Year 7 Girls, Year 10 Girls and Year 9 Boys we had two students who draw in first place with same number of points.

EISM Inter-School Athletics Competition
The EISM Inter-School Athletics Division 2 competition will take place during week three of Term 2 on Tuesday 9 May 2023. More details about this event will be published closer to the event.
Students who won for their age group at the House Athletics (those who are born earlier or later than most of their cohort will be compared to their age group – taken on 1 January this year) will represent Oxley at this event. The fastest 100m runners will be selected for the relay team for their age group. Unfortunately, there is only discus for U/14; U/16 and Open at the EISM level. We hope to do well in this competition and strongly encourage students who won their events to focus on training and to attend the Fitness (Running) Group on Thursday afternoons at 3.45pm, meeting on Court 3 in the Stadium. Selected students will be notified and their names will be posted on the Stadium noticeboard.
