Junior School

I can hardly believe that we are over halfway through Term 1! It has been an incredibly busy start to the year, but we have much to thank God for. As a staff this morning, we were reminded of who we are in Christ and how awesome our God is. We are blessed beyond all measure, and God’s mercies are new every morning.

On Thursday 16 February, it was a delight to induct our Junior School leaders into their positions at our Investiture Chapel. We acknowledged our Junior School Captains, Semester 1 Home Group Captains, and Enviro Captains. In addition, all Year 6 students were presented on stage as they serve as the most senior members of our Junior School cohort. Our guest speaker, Dr Douglas Peck, shared with the students and encouraged them in their leadership. Our Junior School Captains, Lincoln Johnston and Mia Frazer, also reminded us that leadership is not about the badge. Anyone can be a leader by being an example to those around them through their words and actions. Leadership is not about self-importance but instead about seeking to serve others. Congratulations to the following students for their appointments as student leaders:

It was an absolute pleasure to attend the Primary School Christian Leadership Conference on Monday 27 February. Our Year 6 Captains, along with Mrs Bradshaw and Mrs Liddle, trekked across town to Werribee Baptist Church to spend a day learning how to serve our Junior School more effectively as leaders. Students were challenged to be young men and women of integrity and reminded that –

The true test of a person’s character is what is done when no one is watching. John Wooden

The standout session was titled Backwards Leadership. During this time, students were challenged to think about the tension we have as Christian leaders, as the world’s story is often at odds with what God says about leadership. We looked at how a Christian leader does the unexpected, shows more than they tell by being examples, are sacrificial in their leadership, and put others before themselves. Finally, a Christian leader is faithful in completing the tasks God has given them. Leadership in the world is often self-absorbed, but a Christian leader looks like Jesus – a servant leader.

At our Week 5 Chapel service, we had the privilege of celebrating some ROARsome students who have shown either Respect, Obedience, Acceptance or Resilience. These students enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea with Mrs Liddle and Mrs Kirby-Beach. The ROARsome students are:
