STEM News

On Wednesday the St Mary’s Year 6 STEM leaders attended a special event run by Museums Victoria, the Humans on the Moon Space Design Sprint. The students viewed a short film in the Planetarium, Solar System Odyssey. This demonstrated the difficulties humans and living things face when met with the conditions of space. They then listened to a guest speaker from Swinburne University who presented information on what’s required to overcome the challenges of surviving in space.

Students were introduced to the problem - Setting up a base on the moon that humans can inhabit for an extended period.

Students then spent time working together to understand the problem, extracting and

documenting relevant and important information.

Students then defined the brief, brainstormed solutions and finally, created a prototype. We will continue to work on these prototypes in the last week of school and look forward to sharing our final products with you.
