Learning and Teaching in 3/4G

STEPHANIE ALEXANDER KITCHEN GARDEN PROGRAM

Last Friday the 3rd of March, it was the Year 3/4’s turn to be immersed in their first Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program.

The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation delivers pleasurable food education to children and young people in Australia. Thank you to all of our volunteers.

Here are some reflections from 3/4G about the experience.

Eli

I loved rolling, cutting and pressing the orecchiette shape into the dough. I found evenly cutting the dough to make the pasta the same size challenging. It was hard to get the right texture in the pesto. In the end the food was worth the challenge!

Julia

What I loved about the cooking is that we could go in the kitchen and Miles’ mum helped Eli put the pasta in the pot. We all had a turn at putting something in the pesto sauce.

Zoe

On Thursday, 3/4G and 3/4H harvested tomatoes. We almost found 100 of them or more. It was a very good experience. All of the tomatoes were in so many different sizes!  Can you guess what we made??? WE MADE PASTA!

Karla

The day before we cooked our food we harvested the tomatoes which means that we picked them off the big bush.We learnt how to pick them and to let other people have a turn. I had so much fun!

Jordan

We all got a turn in mixing and cracking the eggs in the bowl.

Alyssa:

The day before 3/4G and 3/4H were making/cooking our food we went outside to harvest the tomatoes in our school garden. We went to the hall and got into our groups. My group was me, Mila, Ari, Miles and our parent helpers were Mila's mum, Miles mum.

NARRATIVES

We have started investigating narratives during our Writing time. We started with “Sizzling Starts” and experimented with different ways to engage the audience. Here are some examples of our work.

Mila and Sebi:

Boom! "We're under attack!" I yelled. People scattered in all directions. Dynamite exploded as it hit the ground.

Amelia and Zoe

I stood, staring transfixed at the rhino. I couldn't take my gaze away as the rhino's eyes turned red, it pawed the ground and began to charge…

Chloe and Alyssa:

Julie and Cara were talking while eating their lunch at school. Cara told Julie a secret but before any words came out of her mouth she said not to tell anyone! Julie knew she could not tell because Cara was whispering. They ran to the office and Cara slowly told Julie the secret.

Olivia and Karla:

Boom! The bomb exploded while it was floating on water. It crashed all over the building. Glass shattered and alarms went off!
