Julia, Prep classroom teacher

We’ve been learning all about browsing in the library - what it means, sounds like, and looks like. Alice the Librarian has helped our Preps to navigate our library by helping them to go in with a plan (whether they want to read non-fiction or a picture book, which side of the Library they’re going to browse to find that book, how they want to feel when reading the book, and what sort of things they might look for on the front cover to help them find a book for them). We’ve also learned that in the Library, we move with walking feet, speak with whisper voices, treat the books gently and return them to where they belong.

Alice has sent out a Compass post regarding our school’s library management system called Oliver. This post explains how to log into Oliver so that you can see what books your children have on loan.

It’s so exciting seeing the students learn to love reading and finding books that they’re interested in. Thank you to the families for helping to foster the prep students’ love of reading at home with nightly reading. Creating that special time goes a long way!
