COVID Update

COVID Update
The NSW Premier has indicated that with the 2022 return to school there will be some ‘bumps along the way’. However, he has indicated that being back for a new year is better than school being closed.
The Calrossy experience is that we have encountered a small number of cases over the first few days back. In learning to live with COVID but to sensibly protect our community, please note the following clarifications:
Rapid Antigen Home Test kits
Parents should have received 2 RAhT kits home with children last Friday. These tests are to be used for surveillance testing, before school on Monday and Thursday. Further kits will be issued this week.
Positive Results
Calrossy will provide additional information to families in which there is a positive case. Please advise us if a child tests positive via Katya.thomas@calrossy.nsw.edu.au as well as notifying Services NSW.
Isolation Period
The NSW standard is that anyone who tests positive for COVID must isolate for 7 days before returning to school. There is no need to register a negative test or undertake further testing prior to return. Symptoms should also have abated. Please talk to our Health Centre if in doubt. Any Boarder cases will be discussed individually.
Household Contacts
Family members who live with a person who contracts COVID are required to isolate for the seven days. Health data shows that this is the biggest risk with the Omicron variant.
Masks
Whilst inconvenient, the use of masks has been demonstrated to be an effective barrier to spread of COVID. All Secondary students and teachers must wear a mask indoors and they are highly recommended for Primary students. (Some exemptions apply.)
School measures
Classrooms and commonly used spaces are being regularly cleaned to the standard required. Students are encouraged to wash hands regularly, especially before eating and to observe personal hygiene, minimising close contact outside.
School Events
Calrossy is working within the guidelines for school events, looking to minimise outside adult contact but getting the balance in supporting a strong start to the year for parents and students. Information nights will take place as planned, with measures taken to minimise risks. Some school events may be postponed or cancelled. A careful risk assessment is being undertaken for every activity, to support learning and operating school as close to normal as possible.
At this stage the swimming carnivals on 10th and 11th February are planned to take place.
Thanks for your support in doing everything to keep our school safe.
