Celebrate the Simple things
I am still smiling after the wonderful CHPS Carols on Tuesday night. I am so grateful that we could all meet together as a community to celebrate the Christmas season. As I sat looking around, I was reminded that the simple things in life are really the best! Here is a snapshot of what I saw:
- People connecting and laughing together
- Children dancing on the grass, twirling around and basking in bubbles
- Open packets of hot chips (aka dinner for busy families!)
- Children being brave, getting up on a stage and having fun
- Dedicated staff caring for their students
- Talented Performing Arts teachers coordinating the event
- Staff singing Mariah Carey at the top of their lungs
- Performing Arts Captains confidently speaking into the microphone
- Creative ‘moves’ to the many Christmas Carols
- Families taking photos
- Dry ice and foam spilling from Candy Canes
- Chocolate!
- Colourful costumes
- Tears in parents’ eyes (due to being so proud!)
So, this Christmas season, as we are allowed to be busy, I encourage you to take moment to notice the simple things in life. If you are feeling stressed, watch your kids play in the backyard, start a water fight, go for a walk and notice the bees working busily in the bushes, take a breath. If anything, the last couple of years have taught us that the simple things of connecting, noticing and being present are in fact the best!
Grateful
Another event that happened on Tuesday night was that Carol’s upcoming retirement was acknowledged. It has been a privilege to learn from such an amazing and passionate person, educator and leader. I know that she will be greatly missed by staff, families and students and am again so grateful to have been mentored by her.
Been busy!
This time of year at school is very dynamic. Lately I (along with the Year 6 teachers) had the privilege of spending two double sessions with Year 6s, helping them to explore their feelings about high school, undertake simulated electives (‘cooking’ and ‘PE’), read timetables and get ‘diaries’ signed. I have also enjoyed starting to meet our newest ‘recruits’ from kinder and having children in the wellbeing space engaging in activities (note to self, make sure you have a sheet handy when doing Sand Art!). Here are some pics below for your viewing pleasure!
