Principal’s Message

Mrs Kath Baird

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to school for the beginning of Term 1 for 2022! We are looking forward to a great year with many opportunities for students to be involved in their learning, school and community.

This year in addition to the School and Sports Captains, a Student Representative Council (SRC) will be formed. One student representative from Kindergarten, Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3 will be elected this Friday. Students will nominate peers during the week with Mrs Roseby facilitating elections on Friday.

Also the School and Sports Captains will form the student leadership team this year and will meet regularly with me to discuss key areas of need, success and goal setting across the school. The leadership team will also support the SRC in listening to student voice.

Our Induction Mass for 2022 will be held on Wednesday 16 February at 12:30 pm. Unfortunately we are unable to invite parents to Mass on this day under the current COVID-19 restrictions for schools. We will however Zoom the Induction Mass so parents can still be involved. During this mass the presentation of badges for School and Sports Captains as well as elected members of the Student Representative Council will occur.

This Wednesday 9 February at 9:30am will see our annual swimming carnival take place. Students will be excitedly working in their houses this week to practice chants, organise signs and decorations as well as plan their strategy for success. Parents are able to attend this event by being seated in a designated location. Again due to the current COVID-19 restrictions parents will be unable to interact with their children during this time.

This Thursday all students in Years 3-6 will be participating in a CPR awareness program facilitated  by Cameron McFarlane who is a fully qualified Senior Aquatic Lifeguard and a Royal Life Saving Society trainer and assessor. This is an important initiative in providing students with an opportunity to recognise when CPR is required and some simple steps to assist people in need.  Staff will then complete their CPR/Anaphylaxis training in the afternoon.

As the term continues please remember that if you have any concerns, queries or questions don't hesitate to make contact with us and we can help you out. With new school years, comes an element of change while adjusting to new routines. Our mission is to ensure that we can support students to feel safe, valued, cared for and respected so they can continue to be happy and engaged learners.

Take care

Kath Baird
