Principal News

Dear Sacred Heart School Community

We announced our school leadership positions for 2022 at an assembly on Wednesday. Congratulations to our Year Six students:

School Captains: Isabelle and Julian

School Vice Captains: Caitlin and John

I know these four students who were elected by their peers and teachers, will represent our school with responsible decision making and be great models for all our students. Can I also acknowledge our other Year Six students who nominated for a leadership position. Despite disappointment they handled the announcement with great dignity.

Covid News

We continue to be very fortunate to avoid the expected surge in positive Covid tests that some other schools are experiencing. As you would be aware from earlier correspondence today, we have had two students test positive. Thank you to the parents who have contacted our school to let us know that despite a negative RAT, they have kept their child home because they are exhibiting some of the Covid symptoms. Your diligence is helping keep our school community safe.

Extend Before School Care Program

Earlier this week I meet with our region's Before and After School Care Manager. Part of our discussion centred on my happiness with the program provided and the consistent positive feedback about the coordinators over the past few years including our new coordinator this year Chrisy. In our discussions it has been decided to cancel Before School Care after Friday 4th March until the end of Term One unless we have some students booked into the service. At the start of each term we will reopen the Before School Care Program for the first three weeks and then make a decision based upon usage.

Staff Professional Development

Our teachers are again working with educational consultant Deborah Vietri this year. Deborah meets with our teachers each term to help them plan enquiry units that are authentic, relevant and stimulating. When it comes to enquiry learning, we want our students to be "deep sea divers", not just "snorkelers"! We want our students to have their inquisitive dispositions stimulated, with learning experiences that are exciting and educational.

Coffee Van

A reminder to all, that our very popular coffee van returns this Thursday 24th February for that very important early morning "coffee fix". As mentioned last week, this service is for our parents and guardians only. Coffees will be available from around 8.30am.

Please be aware that this year we will be participating in "World Down Syndrome Day" events. Further information will follow as the date Monday 21st March draws closer.

Cricket Clinics For Students

As mentioned in our first newsletter of the year, Sunny, father of Veer in Year Three, is generously offering his services to run some cricket coaching after school for interested students. Sunny is  passionate about his cricket and would love to give about twelve students (boys and girls in Year Three to Year Five) the opportunity to also gain a passion for cricket. So far the parents of four students have indicated that they would like their children to participate. Sessions starting later this term will be on a Tuesday night straight after school and will run for an hour. If you are interested email me for further information. Sunny has his working with Children Check.

Enrolments For 2023

Talking about 2023  as we come to the end of only week 3 of the 2022 school year may seem rather premature, but forward planning is an essential part of our school's administrative processes.

Enrolments for our Year Prep Class in 2023 officially open on Monday 7th March. Siblings of current students are encouraged to get their enrolment forms in early, so that we have an idea of how many further places we can offer in Year Prep 2023. Late last year and already this year we have conducted a number of tours with prospective families.

Year Six 2021

It's always great to see our former students in the early days of their transition to secondary school. This week Areesh called into school looking resplendent in her Mercy College Coburg uniform. As you can see from her smiling face, she is enjoying her new school.

Please take care.

Yours sincerely
