Princes Hill Secondary College student wins top honours in Premier's VCE Awards

Princes Hill Secondary College student Lucy Harrington received top honours this week for her outstanding VCE results in 2021. Lucy received a Premier’s VCE Award for excellence in Philosophy, making her the top Philosophy student in the state achieving a perfect study score.

"I was delighted" said Lucy, who is now studying toward a Bachelor of Arts degree at The University of Melbourne.  Lucy added "Year 12 was a bit of a battle but taking it one day at a time and keeping the end goal in sight was what helped me through. Also not taking it all so seriously."

Trevor Smith, Principal, said the entire school community was proud of Lucy.

298 of Victoria’s brightest students were recognised by this year’s Premier’s VCE Awards.

Matthew Bannon, former student of Princes Hill SC was awarded a Hansen Scholarship at the University of Melbourne in the presence of the Patron, Ms Jane Hansen AO and the Vice Chancellor, Professor Duncan Maskell.

As you may know, the Hansen Scholarship is one of the most valuable undergraduate scholarships in the nation, valued at over $100,000. Scholars receive accommodation, funding for international exchange, a bespoke program of mentoring, cultural and social events and pastoral care and are eligible to apply for up to $20,000 of funding for their next steps after the Bachelor degree. Scholars reside together in the centre of Melbourne in Little Hall, a state-of-the-art student accommodation facility.

The Hansen Scholarship is the universities flagship equity scholarship for commencing undergraduate students. The scholarship is one of the most generous undergraduate scholarships in Australia.

Matthew is studying a Bachelor of Arts this year at The University of Melbourne.  I do hope our school community will join with me in acknowledging Matthew's remarkable achievement.
