Brace yourself. Year 12 Results are on their way!
The wait is nearly over. This Monday (12th December) VCE results are released. For Year 12’s intending on applying for University or TAFE, these results (and any ATAR) will be used as part of the selection of who gets offers. As such the VTAC has a Change of Preferences (CoP) period allowing students to make last minute changes to course preferences (add/remove or reorder preferred courses). Those who receive an offer are offered the course highest on their preference list that they are eligible for (i.e. met the ATAR and selection criteria requirements). lt is also the last chance to make sure your preference list reflects what you would like to study in the future.
Our Careers Adviser, Graeme Crosbie, as well as Greg Bristol and the House Leaders will be available from Monday 10:30am to assist students with CoP. Then, on Wednesday 14th December (from noon) we will be holding our CoP BBQ. Staff from La Trobe University and the Skills and Jobs Centre at GOTAE will also be available to meet with students at the BBQ to provide support.
A Wanganui Park S.C Change of Preference resource that has details of how to get your results, when CoP is, support at Wanganui Park SC and the major Institutions contact details and the CoP events they are holding can be found at this link.
What if I don’t get the results I want? What are my options?
Worried you won’t receive the ATAR to get into your desired course? Many Universities have supported entry schemes available to our students through SEAS that will give students bonuses towards entry in certain courses. Remember, there are always other options (pathways) to get to where you want to go. It is important to always have a plan B (and probably C) just in case. An alternative plan might be
- a similar course at another campus or University
- a related degree at the same University you can transfer from at the end of 1st year
- completing a TAFE (or other provider’s) Diploma that may have a guaranteed pathway into that degree
- completing a Diploma of General Studies or other Tertiary preparation program (like La Trobe’s Tertiary Prep Program) in 2017 and then applying into your preferred Degree later in 2017
- enrolling in single units in certain courses (via Cloud studies, Online, Open University or other options)
