A number of long term staff will leave us at the end of the 2016 school year.
Cathy Rourke has been a member of staff at Wanganui Park Secondary College since 1979. Cathy was one of the original Wanganui Park High School staff members.
Bronwyn Ireland is also retiring after teaching in the Health/PE department at Wanganui Park since 1986.
Barry Semmens will also leave us, and Barry started here in 1993.
These three staff members have all made a significant contribution to the PE/Sport area. Their dedication and continued support to students and other staff members has always been of the highest standard and they will be missed by many.
Ann Dennis has been a valued member of our English Area for the past 15 years, and she will also be retiring at the end of this year. Ann has also been heavily involved in the School Productions over the years, producing two productions but always in the background helping with sets and costume design and making.
Tina Gartlan is relocating at the end of the year. Tina has been a creative and innovative member of the Arts Learning Area, and her expertise in Glass & Ceramics classes in particular will be missed.
Also leaving us at the end of the year are Rick Connors, Tim Warwick, Hannah Willmott and Harmeet Dhillon. Our thanks and best wishes also go with these teachers as they embark on their next challenges.
We would also like to acknowledge the great work carried out by our trainees for 2016 in Dani Burns, Louise Dean, Alicia Flegeltaub, Trent Herbert, Chrystle Kemp and Tayla Wood. We wish them well as they head off to further studies in 2017.
On Tuesday December 6th, we welcomed our Year 7 students for 2017 for their Orientation Day. They were eager to get to know their teachers and new classmates and were all very excited to be settling into our school. We are confident that these students will go on to make their own significant contributions, and we look forward to supporting them in their transition to Wanganui Park Secondary College.
Our annual awards night, Wanganui on Show, will be held at Eastbank on Thursday December 15th. We would like to extend an invitation to all Wanganui parents and friends to come along and celebrate with us the many successes of our students. Please arrive at 7.15 for a 7.30pm sharp commencement. Students receiving awards on the night will be contacted prior to the event.
So far, we have placed both Year 11 and 10 Semester 2 reports on the Xuno Portal and Year 11 students have been in to school and confirmed their courses with their House Leaders last week. Year 10 students should attend on Tuesday 13th for Course Confirmation.
In the same way, we will SMS parents when the Years 7-9 reports have been posted on Xuno on Monday 12th.
Please contact the main office if you have any difficulty with accessing the Parent Portal or if you need a print out of the reports.
