Getting Year 12 Subject Results and ATAR
Your VCE study scores, ATAR and VTAC Scaled Study Scores will be available to you via the Results and ATAR website and the Results and ATAR app. All current VCE students receive a statement of VCE study scores from the VCAA. However, only students who have applied for courses through VTAC this year and have paid their VTAC processing fees will be sent an ATAR statement in the mail, naturally mail services are not as timely as getting results online so you shouldn't rely on these.
- How to access your results online
You will need to do this in order to have sufficient time to complete Change of Preference should it be required. The VCE results and ATAR Service will be available from 7am, 14th December. To view your results online, log on to www.resultsandatar.vic.edu.au using the instructions provided there.
Note: The Results and ATAR service log in details are different from your VTAC ID and PIN.
- How to receive your ATAR using the VTAC app
Make sure you have the latest version of the app, which adds a "Login to your VTAC account" option on the main menu. Once you have logged in to your VTAC account from the app, you can use the "My ATAR" menu option to view your ATAR and contributing scaled study scores.
Year 12 Change Of Preference
This information is for Year 12 students who have applied for vocational and/or university courses through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC):
Change of Preference (CoP) gives you the chance to add, delete and reorder your preferences. If you receive an offer, you will be offered the course highest on your preference list you are eligible for (if you have met the ATAR and selection criteria requirements). It is also the last chance you have to make sure your preference list reflects what you would like to study in the future.
When can I apply? You can apply to change your preferences any time until 12.00pm (noon) Wednesday 19 December. You will be able to change your preferences again after the main round of offers on Wednesday 16 January, but most course offers are made in this round. NB: CoP will be closed between 7am - 11am on Friday 14 December (the day ATARs are released).
Attached are links to two documents especially written for Year 12’s planning on applying for tertiary studies. They contain information about the process of Change of Preference in greater detail as well as the various events and support resources available with each University. Remember that there is a Change Of Preference BBQ at Wanganui on Monday 17th December. While you may not necessarily be interested in the BBQ all HL’s, Mr Bristol and Cros will be available to help you understand your results and to explore your options. It’s really important that you make contact with us so we can help you!
Focus On Volunteering
The following article has been taken from the My Career Match website and has been adapted for the Weekly Career News, http://bit.ly/2k2LN9g
Volunteering is the single most overlooked skill on resumes.
If you knew that as many as 86% of influencers believe that volunteering would make you more competitive among a pool of job seekers, wouldn’t you make sure to put that activity front and centre on your resume?
If you are a student and are told that most scholarships are given to people who volunteer wouldn’t you go out and volunteer?
If you are a student applying for entry to a university medical course and you’re told that doing volunteer work in a hospital or aged care facility increases the chances of entry, wouldn’t you volunteer?
According to the 2016 Deloitte Impact Survey there is a huge disconnect between how important it is to hiring influencers and how much candidates are leveraging their volunteerism to get jobs. Survey respondents found that only 30% of resumes list volunteering.
In the recruitment world of jobs and job seekers, recruiters are overwhelmingly in favour of volunteering as a professional development tool. Among the findings:
- 92% believe volunteering expands an employee’s professional skill set
- 85% are willing to overlook resume pitfalls when an employee includes volunteering on a resume.
- 82% are more likely to choose a candidate with volunteering experience
- 80% believe volunteering is an effective way to boost leadership skills
- 73% believe people who volunteer are more successful
On this last point a European study found young people's involvement in volunteer initiatives stimulates the development of creative thinking and the ability to quickly adjust in new situations, it forms tolerance for others' values, social sensitivity and an active civil stance - skills which can be capitalized on when both searching for a job and starting a business. These skills make young volunteers much more successful on the labour market, compared to their peers, who lack volunteering experience. One of the important conclusions from the study analysis is that there is a correlation between the skills young people acquire while volunteering and the skills employers look for. For students having volunteer experience on their resume is extremely beneficial and an advantage over those who don’t. People choose to volunteer for a variety of reasons. For some it offers the chance to give something back to the community or make a difference to the people around them. For others it provides an opportunity to develop new skills or build on existing experience and knowledge. Regardless of the motivation, what unites them all is that they find it both challenging and rewarding.
