ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS' REPORT

REPORT

YEAR 12 STUDENTS

Year 12 students will be required to attend revision sessions conducted by their teachers (in their scheduled double-periods and additional English lectures), as advised by their Student Managers. All students are encouraged to meet with their teachers to discuss their revision and seek assistance with their work. We require all students to attend the College in full school uniform when meeting with teachers, submitting/collecting work and studying at the College; we also advise students to contact teachers in advance to arrange a time to meet with them.  We wish all students preparing for the Units 3 & 4 examinations every success.

UNIFORM - TERM 4

Until Melbourne Cup Day (Tuesday 3 November) students may wear either winter or summer uniform.  From Wednesday 4 November all students must be in full summer uniform.  We remind all students that you are ambassadors for the McKinnon community at all times, and should therefore wear the McKinnon uniform correctly. For both summer and winter uniforms, the blazer is the required outer garment; in warm weather students may choose not to wear the blazer to/from school, however the College jumper must not be worn as the outer garment.

STUDENT CONDUCT

Over the coming weeks, many senior students in the College are preparing for and undertaking exams and junior students are completing important assessment tasks. Whilst this is a time of celebration for the Year 12 students, it is critical all students are focused on their studies and we expect McKinnon’s high standards of behaviour to be maintained throughout Term 4.

CHROMEBOOKS AT MCKINNON

We are very excited about the 1-to-1 Chromebooks initiative we have implemented from the start of 2014.  From the beginning of last year, all students in Years 7 and 10 have brought to school a Lenovo Chromebook - a low-cost personal computing device that allows for online collaboration and other digital learning opportunities in all classrooms.  We are proud to be one of the first schools in Australia to deploy Chromebooks and believe they have enabled us to bring outside world into every classroom, and build upon the widespread use of the Google Apps for Education suite at McKinnon.

In 2016 all new Year 7 students and Year 10 students (the Year 9s of 2015) will also be required to bring a new Chromebook to school every day. This will complete our deployment of Chromebooks across the College, with every student having access to their own personal computing device from the start of 2016. Information about this will be posted on Compass in the coming weeks, and instructions for placing an order for a Chromebook will be emailed to families shortly.

PARENT FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTIONS

Many families have now finalised paying subject fees for 2015. Thank-you for your ongoing support in this regard; School Council believes parent financial contributions are critically important; your support enables the College to provide better resources for student learning, such as the new classrooms recently completed as part of the Library refurbishment and extension.  Families with outstanding fees for 2015 are encouraged to contact the Bursar to finalise payments or negotiate a payment schedule. Families in financial difficulty should contact the College to discuss alternative payment arrangements.
