LIBRARY REPORT

OVERDUE BOOKS
Overdue book notices for very overdue books were sent out to parents last week. Please look carefully for these items. We are coming towards the end of the school year and it is better to resolve these matters early. If you have an overdue book please return it so that others may enjoy it. If you have lost a book the normal procedure is to pay for a replacement copy. Should the book be subsequently returned your refund will be issued.
JAMES PHELAN
During Book Week the author James Phelan gave a talk to the Year 7 students. The talk was well received and as a result all of his books in the library were borrowed. Multiple copies of novels have been purchased and are now available for loan, including the last 13 series.
An exert from the last 13
"I click my fingers and everybody dies.
Sam wakes from his nightmare to discover the terrifying reality. It will come true.
Kidnapped from school and finding out his parents aren’t who he thinks they are, Sam is suddenly running from danger at every turn. Nothing will ever be the same again.
With his life and identity shattered, Sam’s salvation is tied to an ancient prophecy. He is in the final battle to save the world, up against an enemy plotting to destroy us all.
He alone can find the last 13.
Are you one of them?"
BEHAVIOUR IN THE LIBRARY
Most people think of Libraries as quiet places and while this is generally true at times, the noise level in the McKinnon library can rise. As a result of student demand the library staff are trying to make the library a quieter place where students can complete school work. We thank students for their co-operation.
The number of students at McKinnon Secondary College has been growing dramatically over the years. Not all students have satisfactory places to study at home so the school needs to provide good study spaces. Students need a quiet place where they can complete work. There are not many quiet areas students can go to at McKinnon. Thus, as a result of student requests, the library will become a quiet working area during lunch-time and after school. If you are not using the library as a quiet place to study or read you may be asked to leave.
CLICKVIEW TV
The Clickview TV service will stop in about 20 days. Clickview videos that could be seen on the internet via the school catalogue will no longer be available, however many of the broadcast documentaries recorded off air can be viewed in Enhance TV. A link to this service is on the library homepage. Once you are signed in to the library you are also signed into Enhance TV and signing in using Google means you do not have to enter a user name password.
MARTIN FLANAGAN
Martin Flanagan is a journalist and author who writes on sport, Australian culture and the relationship between indigenous and non-indigenous Australia. He gave a talk to students on Monday 12 October. Students get very interested after author talks so the library has three copies of his latest book “The short Long book” available for loan.
This is a portrait of a shy black kid from Darwin who became one of the most notable figures in the history of Australian sport, of a footballer who tore apart the 1993 Grand Final within seven minutes of the start, of a man known as a joker who is a serious social and political thinker. It is also the story of a white sportswriter who is taken to his limits, and a long way beyond, seeking to understand a man who can only be understood through his Aboriginality.
Funny, incisive and revealing, The Short Long Book is a compelling portrait of a man who could be described as the soul of the game, as seen by Australia's greatest sportswriter.
