Vision for Learning

Year 12 Reports and Learning Conversations

Year 12 parents and caregivers would have received their student’s final College report this week.  We ask that families take some time to discuss this report and look at the positives, as well as plan for important and success in this last teaching term. These detailed reports will give an indication of where students have achieved well and where a student’s effort will be best focused in the remaining weeks.

Learning Conversations are an important way for parents to maintain contact with a student’s progress and goals.  Learning Conversations for Year 12 students and families only, will occur on Monday 5 August from 4.00pm. Please feel free to make appointments with your student’s teachers regardless of whether an interview has been requested.  This is now completed through School Interviews Online. Information about how to access this site has been sent both with the report and via email.

SATAC Information Session

From 6.00pm-6.40pm on this night there will be a SATAC Information Session.  SATAC is the key body that facilitates entrance to a range of tertiary institutions including all South Australian Universities and TAFE. This is a very important information session for both students and parents/caregivers, as details about both filling in the SATAC forms and other processes are discussed. It also provides another opportunity for parents and caregivers to ask questions as we move toward the end of the year.

Senior Years' Information Night

Today I had the pleasure of watching our school share its experience of Yong Zhao's Rudolph Project at a national conference for principals and school leaders. You may know these groups as EC360 and Mission Endeavour. The connection that many school students (not just from Endeavour College) felt to the aims of the project in terms of developing entrepreneurial skills, finding purpose in their actions and adding to the lives of others was reiterated frequently. When asked what they gained most from this project it was not a grade or a mark or a qualification. The responses centred around learning and working with others, being able to fail and have another go, having a real purpose and making a difference.

In two weeks, on Tuesday 13 August is the Senior Years Information Night. It is a critical night where the changes and directions for the College in the Senior Years will be formally shared, and students and families will be given key course information and subject preference forms for 2020. This session is the culmination of nearly two years of research and work by parents, students and staff, to enhance the learning experience of students to continue to equip them for life and study beyond school.  What Zhao's research amongst others is telling us that students will need…  is the same things that students are telling us they need and so it is with great excitement that the Senior Years at Endeavour College moves into its next phase. This night will be followed in Weeks 6 and 7 with Course Counselling meetings with all students and families moving into Year 11 and Year 12 in 2020.

It is not the clothes that makes a person and it is not a building that makes a school; it is the learning that is happening and the philosophy for learning that is lived and lives within the students and staff. I am looking forward to sharing with you on this night.

Term 3 - Exploring Future Options

Term 3 is a busy time for Pathways planning at Endeavour!  We kicked off on Monday with our Career Expo held in the Endeavour Centre over lunchtime and into afternoon lessons.  Many students made use of this outstanding opportunity to talk with South Australian Universities and private training providers to seek out information about courses and future options. After lunch, all Year 10 students were able to access the expo as part of their PLP subject and showed great diligence in asking meaningful questions to gain a real insight into possible career and course options.

Flinders University: Friday 16 August and Saturday 17 August

Adelaide University:  Sunday 18 August

University of South Australia - City East and West: Sunday 18 August

Magill Campus: Wednesday 28 August

Torrens University: Saturday 17 August

For all Open Days be sure to check times and schedules on the provider's website.

Of course, not all students wish to attend university at the completion of Secondary School and may be seeking a more practical, hands-on approach to tertiary studies.  The TAFE SA website  (www.tafesa.edu.au ) provides information regarding the variety of courses offered at TAFE and the entry requirements and fees for each course.  Many other private training organisations offer Certificate and Diploma courses in areas such as trades, health and community services, performing and creative arts, hospitality, music and media design.  Information regarding these courses can be sourced from the careers area in the Senior Study room or directly from the training provider, some of whom are also holding an Open Day during this month.  For more information on obtaining an apprenticeship or traineeship, students should refer to the Australian Apprenticeship website (www.aatinfo.com.au).

As we move into the busy time of making subject and course selections for the coming year, I am happy to meet with students and their parents to discuss possible career and training options.  Please feel free to email or call me at the College to arrange a meeting time annie.fitridge@endeavour.sa.edu.au.
