Character Strengths - Term 1 Positive Education Focus

This term we are focusing on learning about our own and others’ character strengths.  It has been wonderful walking into classrooms and seeing students learn about their own strengths and how they can use them to be the very best they can be.

There are twenty-four different character strengths and every person has their own unique ones.  Identifying these in our students is a useful way to undertake a strength-based approach when teaching.  That cheeky student may have a talent for ‘Humour’ or the day dreaming student may excel in ‘Creativity’.

Mr Roberts' top five strengths are:

  1. Honesty
  2. Fairness
  3. Judgement
  4. Forgiveness
  5. Leadership

One of the strengths that Mr Roberts identified as an area he would like to develop is ‘Prudence’.  This encompasses being careful about one's choices; not taking undue risks; not saying or doing things that might later be regretted. This is one of Mrs Twyford's strengths so she will assist Mr Roberts greatly with this Character Strength.

We encourage all parents to undertake the free VIA survey to discover their character strengths. This will allow you to identify your own and start an important conversation with your children.  To take the test please click on the link:  https://www.viacharacter.org/
