Year 5 News

We are proud of all the students for how they prepared for and participated in the Market Day Stall project! All of Year 5 were asked to form groups to design and create products to sell at the Market Day last Thursday, 8th December. They developed business plans, conducted market research, tested products then sold their items to students in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. They also sold their wares to teachers and other valued members of the school community. This project taught the students a lot about Financial Mathematics, Design & Technology and Economics. Thank you to all the wonderful Year 5 parents for supporting the children with funds, shopping, cooking, transporting goods and more!

The Year 6 students showcased their cardboard, arcade games last Wednesday, 7th December in the hall. Students worked collaboratively to design and create an arcade game of their choice. This project was inspired by Caine Monroy, a nine-year old boy who created an elaborate cardboard arcade in his dad’s auto parts shop. Students worked hard all term to design and create mini basketball and golf courses, a bowling alley, a skee ball and pinball machine and a spinning barrel. Students from Foundation to Year 5 got the opportunity to play the arcade games with many walking away with prizes they had won on the day. Well done to all Year 6 students for showing how creative they can be.

Visual Arts News

What a busy and creative year it has been in the Art Room.  It is always such a pleasure and privilege to help guide and witness the students’ express their fabulous ideas when exploring different art forms. As students take their folios home at this time of year, the school certainly looks bare without their beautiful work adorning the walls.

On display at Graduation, Year 6 students showcased a number of projects they have been working on throughout the semester including ‘Carnival of Venice’ style masks, hand-painted fans and Japanese art-inspired Silk Paintings. The special Korean paper lanterns they made with Ms Park, complemented their work beautifully.

Our Year 6 Arts Captains and members of their team, have been working tirelessly to try and complete our mural outside Mrs McLeod and Ms Dell’s office. It is really coming along well and will create a lovely calm space to enjoy.

Also, keep a look out for the collaborative canvas art pieces the year 4 students have completed that will be on display in the library.  Can you guess which books the scenes were inspired by?

Wishing you all a fabulous holiday and happy new year.  Keep expressing your creativity, Ormond PS artists!  As Maya Angelou said, “You can’t use up creativity. The more you use the more you have.”

Happy creative days!

Ms Helen Kupfer
