Principal Report & School Information

From the Principal...

It is hard to believe that we have reached the final day of our school year for students. There were so many highlights and special moments throughout the year. These are only a few that quickly come to mind:

Camps  -  Incursions  -  Excursions  -  Swimming Programs  -  STEAM and specialist subjects  -  Wellbeing and Cyber Safety forums  - Sporting opportunities  - Buddies

Working Bees  - Lunchtime Clubs  -  Year 5 Soiree

To our Year 6 cohort, you are moving on to the next stage of your educational journey.  Your graduation on Tuesday night was indeed a true celebration of all your accomplishments. I hope you enjoyed the experience, the wonderful food and the ceremony.

Thanks also needs to be expressed to our crossing supervisors Sue and Ros, OSHC leaders - April and Sharelle and other members of the school community who devote much time to supporting our children at OPS. I wanted to take the time to warmly thank the school council and wider community for the support you have shown me during another busy yet productive year.  Thank you also to Nerida crake for leading our school council in 2022. To Heather and Adam Hosken, Margo Orsatti and the work of the P&F team – we certainly appreciate what you do for the school and the wider community. It truly is remarkable what a team can accomplish!

I also wanted to thank both the teaching and ES staff for their commitment to their work and dedication. I particularly need to recognize the work of Lorrie Dell, my Assistant Principal and the work she does behind the scenes with wellbeing and supporting students with individual needs. This year, on top of that – she had to ensure all the review policies and documentation were available to our reviewer. To our office staff (Jan Cassidy and Brodie Thomson) who have also been incredibly supportive.  I appreciate all the additional tasks they have taken on throughout 2022. Likewise, I need to acknowledge my SIT leadership team for their work on the school review with planners and PLC organisation for 2023.

I am so grateful we are having a whole school review in 2023.  This allows the entire community to steer the school in a new direction, with new targets and goals for the following 4 years.

Hello's & Goodbyes

In 2023 we have new staff joining us – Nicola Lane (Performing Arts) Tim Andrews (Year 5), Karen Abrahams (Year 1).

We say farewell to Elly Wood, Laura Cecil, Angus Dickason and Helen Kupfer is taking leave for 6 months. Good luck to all of you, you are cetainly going to be missed by the OPS community however I am sure like me, they wish you the best as you embark on new adventures both personally and professionally. Please be sure to come and say hello again soon.

I also want to farewell our business manager Jan Cassidy! Jan works behind the scenes managing HR and all the finances of the school for 23 years! Principal

Farwell Jan! You will be missed! Thanks for the 23 years of support, fun & friendships.

From the the abundance of knowledge, training and support you have given to so many others in admin over the years, to becoming like family and being part of so many family milestones and watching your family grow and becoming part of each others, to all the concerts, the shenanigans & goosechasy during covid lockdowns and being each others sounding board, biggest advocate and dear dear friend for life to me and others. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, the office is (well, i am) certainly going to be lost without you.

Much love Brodie xx

REMINDERS

Curriculum Day & Professional Planning Day (Pupil Free Days)

Monday 19th December will be a Professional Practice Day for staff. Teachers will be using their fourth Professional Practice Day to attend to planning and professional development (which for some staff is targeted towards higher level first aid training) therefore it will be a Student Free Day. This will tie in with our Curriculum Day on Tuesday 20th December which has been allocated to school review preparation and PLC induction and training. This is also a Student Free Day.

Out of School Hours Care will be operating on both of these days for those families who still require care.

Our end of year assembly will take place on the Friday 16th December, start time approximately 3pm.

2023 Return to School Schedule

Students in Years 1 to 6 will start on Monday 30th January 2023 at 9am.

Foundation students start Thursday 2nd February 2023. Students will be given a specific start time.

On Monday 30th and Tuesday 31st January, and Wednesday’s 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd of February all Foundation students do not attend school unless they are required for an assessment. You will receive your individual date and time of assessments.

Foundation students will be dismissed at 3:30pm on all school days.

From Monday 27th February onwards all Foundation students will attend a full school week.

Library News

With the end of the year a couple of days away, l ask that library books be returned immediately. Although school finishes for our students on Friday the school will still be open on Monday and Tuesday if you need to drop any last minute returns off.

I ask that if books are lost you contact the office to let us know.

Thank you to the school community for the ongoing support of our school library. We really do appreciate all that you do.

Education Support

2022 has just flown by.. It really does seem like only a few days ago that we were in the Hall having our school photos taken. 2022 has definitely been a year of successes and celebrations – only achieved because of your dedication, professionalism and commitment to Ormond Primary School.

Thanks to your tireless work and dedication which has allowed the children to strive and achieve so many personal bests. As we have mentioned in the past, although the children may at times forget what you have taught them, remember they will never forget how you made them feel. Thank you for being such caring and supportive educator to the children in our care.

Thank you on behalf of our darlings for the energy, enthusiasm, and passion for learning that you share. Thank you for the help and friendship that you readily offer to all- each and every day. Thank you most especially for the support that you have given us throughout the year. We’ve really appreciated it.

We hope that Christmas is a joyful and relaxing time for you and your family – full of love, laughter and lounging. Make sure you have at least one pyjama day! Enjoy the peace of the holidays.

I also want to make special mention to Jan Cassidy, who will not be with us next year. We don’t want any relaxing photos by the pool or spicy lemonade photos. Enjoy your time, make a bucket load of memories with the family, and please pop in for a cuppa. Your face will be sorely missed by all the ES staff.

Christmas Lights!

To share some Christmas spirit Miss Eather would like to share her family's Christmas light show. Each year her brother puts on an interactive display in Sandringham. This display helps us raise money for the Breast Cancer Foundation which is close to their hearts.

There is a Kids Show between 7:30pm and 8:00 pm each night with photo opportunities and even a snow machine! The main event starts at 8:30pm each night leading up to Christmas day.

If you would like to visit please do not drive down Grange road to view the display. Please park in a neighbouring street and walk over to the display.

Come down and enjoy!
