From our Principal

Dear Parents, Students and Friends,

Welcome to the beginning of the academic year of 2023. A special welcome to our year seven parents who have joined our community for the first time as well as any new parents across year eight to twelve. May you find St. Peter’s College a place of welcome as well as a centre of stimulating and engaging learning for your son or daughter.

This week, at our first assembly, we were able to witness and welcome our year sevens as the processed into our assembly spaces for the first time. As they came though the assembly doors to be presented to the rest of their campus community, a little apprehensive and a lot daunted, I couldn’t help but wonder what the next six years is going to be like for them. Our mission at St. Peter’s College is to encourage our young people to aspire to meet their true potential in all that they undertake and in doing so make a difference to others they meet in life’s journey. This is guided by a belief that we are life-long learners and is inspired by Jesus’ words to Peter, ‘Be Not Afraid’. May our new students find challenge and reward throughout their time with us.

Who’s Who

Anecdotally, students whose parents who are engaged in their young person’s schooling and learning progress and meaningfully connect with the college are more likely to succeed in their schooling. Attached to this newsletter is a Who’s Who list of staff, together with their qualifications and their school role and responsibilities. I would encourage new parents to commence the important work of making the connections with key staff. The most important staff member to connect in is with your child’s Learning Advisor. They are responsible for supporting your child’s learning and well-being throughout their secondary schooling. The first opportunity to nourish this connection is coming up with the Welcome evenings. At Clyde North this is February 14th and Cranbourne it’s the 16th.

Strategic Improvement Plan 2023 – 2026

This year marks the commencement of a new strategic plan. Devised to continue from the successes of the previous plan, the strategic improvement plan (SIP) articulates the focal points which will lead to improved learning outcomes. Building on the successes of the previous plan, the cornerstone of this plan centres on three main drivers: developing instructional leaders to support the development of expert teachers in the classroom leading to accelerated growth in learning. In this plan the priority is on “depthing” the work already commenced. In summary our work, and the focus of the SIP includes five main improvement domains:

  1. Catholic Identity and Religious Education
  2. Learning and Teaching
  3. Leadership
  4. Child Safety
  5. Resources

In subsequent newsletter pieces I will be presenting an overview of the work in each of these domains.

High Achievers 2022

This week we were able to celebrate the fine achievements of our Class of 2022. There were some very fine achievements to celebrate and celebrate we should. It is important for our students to recognise that high achievement is within their grasp. We know not all students will be able to achieve the sort of results we were able to acknowledge, so the message to our students was simple, control what you can control and the rest looks after itself. Success for each student is defined for that individual by that individual with the best advice coming from Ash Barty’s Mindset Coach, Ben Crowe who states: “No matter what happens today, tomorrow, for the rest of the year, if you just focused on three words that describe the human that you want to be…and strived to live these out in your daily life…. that is success.

Congratulations to the following high achievers for 2022
