Physical Education

Grade 5/6 Interschool Sport – Term 1, 2023

As part of the 2023 Physical Education and Sports program in Term 1, Mullum Primary children in Grade 5 & 6 will be involved in Interschool Sports matches against other local Primary schools on Friday 24 February, 2023.  The matches will follow a round robin format where students will play each school involved on the one day.  Teams for this event are being organised this week and the sports are: Basketball, Hot Shots Tennis, Kanga 8’s Cricket, Volleybounce, Sof-crosse. More information will be emailed home to families this week through Compass.

We need parent helpers!

If you would like to manage, coach or umpire a Grade 5/6 sports team then please email me through Compass this week. There is the option of being with the team on Friday 24 February for the Round Robin from 9.30am to 2.30pm, and/or coaching the team on Friday mornings at 9-10.30am, leading up to the event.  Please, let me know how you are able to assist.  Your assistance would be greatly appreciated!

District Swimming Carnival 2023

Please time your students NOW if they are interested in participating in this event.  This is a carnival for talented 9 to 13 year old swimmers who meet qualifying times.  The carnival is on Monday 27 February, 2023 at the Tintern Grammar pool, 1.50-3.30pm.

If you are interested, please have someone time you swimming 50m of one, two or all of the following strokes – 

• 50m freestyle
• 50m backstroke
• 50m butterfly 
• 50m breaststroke

Email your times to me and I will let you know if you qualify.  Parents must transport and supervise their children for this event.   More information will be emailed to interested and/or successful swimmers.

Unwell or Injured

If your child is not well enough to participate in Physical Education lessons please send an email to your child’s class teacher and copy it to me. Sometimes it can be very difficult to determine whether a student should be participating in physical activities or not without the guidance from parents.  If a child is at school, it will be expected they are well enough to perform all activities unless outside medical advice is provided.

Grade 5 and 6 students – Team Vic Registrations

Team Vic registrations for AFL, Netball, Basketball, Soccer are now open for Grade 5 and 6 students.  Please, speak to me as soon as possilbe if your child is at the 'top of their game' and would like to be considered for these schools trials.

Interschool Sport Round Robin - Friday 24 March - for all Grade 5/6 students

District Swimming - Monday 27 February - for qualifying 9 to 13 year old students

Division Swimming - Thursday 9 March - for qualifying swimmers from District

Interschool Sport Warrandyte South Final - 10 March or 31 March for qualifying Grade 5/6 teams

Region Swimming - 24 March - for qualifying swimmers from Division

Interschool Sport District Final - Monday 3 April for qualifying Grade 5/6 teams

District & Division Tennis - TBC for qualifying grade 5 and 6 students

House Cross Country - Thursday 30 March for Foundation to Grade 6 students

Term 2

District Cross Country - Wednesday 24 May for qualifying 9 to 13 year old students

Division Cross Country - 6 June for qualifying students

Region Cross Country - 13 June for qualifying students

Term 3

House Athletics - Tuesday 1 August for Foundation to Grade 6 students

Back up date for House Athletics - Tuesday 8 August

District Athletics - Tuesday 6 September for all Grade 5/6 plus qualifying 9 & 10 year old students.

Term 4

Division Athletics - 4 October for qualifying 9 to 13 year old students

Region Athletics - 20 October for qualifying 9 to 13 year old students
