Music Notes

Nicole Bull, Academic Dean of Performing Arts

A very heartfelt thank you to all of the staff, parents and students who have continued to support Performing Arts at Kilvington this year. The dedication and contribution shown by all has been exemplary. I wish you all a safe and joyous Christmas and a well-deserved rest.

Year 5 Band Concert

On Thursday 30 November, the Year 5 Band students presented a varied and entertaining program of music in Dalton Hall to an appreciative audience.

Every year, students in Year 5 have the opportunity to learn a brass, woodwind or percussion instrument within the Music curriculum. They are supported by a talented and professional team of instrumental music teachers.

The progress made during the past semester was evident to those who witnessed the mid-year concert. On every instrument, students had extended their note range, consolidated their tone, and together played a number of charts with multiple harmonies and independent parts.

Students performed songs such as 'Ode to Joy', 'Ju’s Plain Blues' and 'Mickey Mouse March'. We were also joined by a special guest, the Kadenza Concert Band, conducted by Mr Chris Higgins. Kadenza performed 'Frosty the Snowman' and then joined with the Year 5s to perform the powerful and energetic 'Dragon Slayer'.

I'd like to congratulate the Year 5 students for all they've achieved in learning their instruments this year and strongly encourage them to continue their instruments by signing up for Music Tuition and joining the Kadenza Concert Band on Thursday afternoons.

A special thank you to our team of instrumental music staff: Mr Evgeny Chebykin, Ms Sylvie Leprohon, Mr Conrad Nillson, Mr Ken McClimont, Mr Chris Higgins and Ms Ashleigh McMaster, for their guidance and motivation throughout the year.

Years 2 and 3 String Program Concert

We held the Years 2 and 3 String Program Concert on Tuesday 28 November. Conducted by Mr Darko Kolosov, students showcased a marvelous concert featuring the pieces they've diligently practised throughout the semester.

The Concert showed the students' ability to play and perform as an ensemble, both with melody and harmonies. A big thank you to parents for their support at home, and we hope many students will continue this journey in 2024!

2024 Music Tuition Enrolment forms
