MFG Art Awards

MFG Art Awards 2022

MFG has many talented emerging artists in the fields of Visual Arts, Media and Visual Communication Design. This year there were many excellent examples of student work across all three VCE units in 2022. Judging for the following awards was a challenging task for the VCE Arts teachers. The three students below are most deserving.

MFG Arts Award 2022 – Jemma Guiney Year 11

Congratulations to Jemma Guiney who was awarded the Arts Award for 2022.

This award is given to Jemma for her excellence in three VCE Art studies of Media, Studio Arts and Visual Communication Design.

Throughout 2022, Jemma demonstrated a very high level of ability and commitment to all three art studies in both Units 1 and 2.  Consistently her three Arts teachers have noted Jemma’s high level of organisation, her efficient use of class time and preparedness for learning. Her production and analytical work in three studies was consistently outstanding. Jemma exhibited excellent creativity, and skill in the application of materials and techniques and in the use of equipment related to her folio work equally in all three visual art disciplines. From sculpture and paintings created in Studio Arts, packaging and promotional products made in VCD to Film and Podcast productions in Media, Jemma has produced an outstanding folio of works in 2022.

Jemma is a most deserving recipient of this award and is to be congratulated for her dedication to the creative process and artistic practice.

MFG Art Acquisition Award - Emily Sklenars Year 12

The MFG Art Acquisition Award is given to Emily for their folio work in VCE Studio Arts Units 3 and 4.

Emily produced a cohesive folio of artworks based on the theme of “Discomfort”. Their three digital prints which form one artwork, communicate the subtle uncertainty and discomfort of being watched and having your space invaded by something unknown. The linework, monotone, gradient colour scheme and tilted compositions highlight the more mundane and comforting aspects of being at home in a safe space juxtaposed by an uncomfortable idea of not being alone when you think you are. In this artwork it is the presence of small eyes and spindly fingers that bring discomfort.  Emily mastered the use of digital art programs such as Clip Studio Paint demonstrating excellent skills, and together with an abundance of patience and concentration has produced this fine artwork which we will all get to enjoy hanging on a wall at MFG.

MFG Visual Communication Design Award - Madeline Robertson Year 12

Sid demonstrated excellence in Visual Communication Design throughout all assessment tasks in Unit 3 and 4. They demonstrated an extraordinary repertoire of drawing skills that span across observational, visualisation and technical drawing. Sid worked diligently through the major folio on evolving these skills through digital applications to produce high quality Final Presentations of their design concepts. Sid's major folio encompassed an architecture design and branding identity for a plant nursery located in the inner Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy. Throughout the design process, Sid explored thoughtful research that drove a strong range of creative and innovative design concepts. Sid is commended not only on their excellent skills and ability, but their creative curiosity and willingness to explore, test and evaluate a vast range of ideas to achieve the best design solution.
